Masters LV x Koons 2017 Collaboration

I was not totally convinced about this collection until I read one of your post said that different collection has different purpose. Maybe LV doesn't expect huge benefit from this collaboration but this is Huge PR strategy. This mean that they have investigated carefully and do those special pieces for a certain reasons. I always believe in professional people, rather than the CROWD.

Well of course! I only started to appreciate the collection when I learnt about the process of making this collection. They spent years on it, one year alone just to obtain the faithful digital copy in HD of these artworks from museums that house them. The amount of money, thoughts, and expertise they spent on doing this collaboration is quite remarkable. I thought I'd appreciate more when I hold the real product in my hands, I always do.

Exactly, I appreciate products as well as process how to make them.

I wouldn't carry anything from it, mainly because I'm a man and I don't think I could easily swing it, but I kind of love the collection. I really appreciate it because it seems to go against what people want and/or expect from Louis Vuitton. If I were a woman with a number of bags and the money to spare, I might consider getting one because I think the right piece with the right outfit on the right person could look really cool. It definitely wouldn't be an everyday purse or bag, but one that could be brought out every now and then to deliver a bit of a punch.

I agree that they are not something for everyone, especially for working life style. If I would buy only one bag then I probably chose something easy to use to maximize usage, cost per wear. What I see from this collection is it is unique, nice to have one piece in my collection. I just feel people should think more before saying something about things that they even don't understand meaning behind it. Of course, one might like or dislike, that's totally normal. It is always easier to criticize than making positive comments.

Right. Definitely not something for everyone. But guess what? Not everything has to be for everyone. I'm okay if something is not for me. I mean, sure, it would be nice if things were always meant for me (that could get very expensive very fast!), but just because it's not for me does not necessarily mean it is bad or ugly or worthless. And if they really aren't making that many of these bags, then clearly they aren't meant for everyone.

People don't need to understand the meaning behind it because there is no meaning behind it. It's just a couple of bags. If it doesn't look nice to them, then that's it lol.

They're just bags and accessories. Meaningful things are things that are priceless and hold sentimental value, a personal story connected to it. They are things that fulfill a void in one's life, not in one's closet.

This may be meaningful to Koons because he designed them, but we are just the consumers who are buying into things that look pretty in our eyes.

But many objects, including those that hold sentimental value, are inherently meaningless. The meaning for the owner and the sentimental value is gained through ownership and/or projection of emotions and ideas onto the object. For instance, a ring of my mom's is really just a ring, but perhaps to her or my family it means much more because it represents to us something much more about her life or my family. The same thing can go for these purses. If someone who loves Louis Vuitton and Titian happens to fall in love with one of the Titian pieces and finds meaning in it for herself, then who am I to say otherwise?

I agree what you said about the ring example, that's exactly what I meant. The ring has a history and a story to it. I don't think I was clear in my original post.

I just think that liking something in a store shelf is not as meaningful as say, the bag your mother passed down to you. But as you use the new bag you bought from the store and as it ages with you, it develops meaning and becomes even more meaningful to the person you pass it on to.

After much deliberation, I pretty much decided I'll pass on this collection. It's just too expensive and I imagine these items are more delicate, which means they are probably not meant for everyday use. I don't have that much spare money to easily justify buying something so expensive and that I won't use as much. The interior is made of leather and has these golden texts, so I know I'd possibly be nervous of ruining it. And getting a bag organizer or something of the sort is not acceptable to me, because the interior is just too beautiful to ruin with an organizer. I'm also a bit scared of potential issues, like the metallic letters falling down, the colors chipping or que glazing melting. I still need to think even harder about this, but I imagine this will still be my decision.
I could get the clutch, but it's still very expensive for what it is and I wouldn't have much use for it.
Maybe a carré... who knows?

I definitely agree with that. Objects do gain more meaning over time. But with bags such as these, I find it hard to say they're completely meaningless to everyone unless or until they've gained a personal history with them. It's been two days and they've already gotten such a strong reaction. I mean, even now, for many people these bags seem to represent something akin to "Ugh. That time Louis Vuitton made those hideous bags." lol Sure, not the greatest, most personal sentimental value, but not totally meaningless.

That would be fun, I am waiting to see how you rock it . I usually don't have much time to read tpf but this week is my easter vacation so I following this thread. OMG, this is scary lesson, maybe I should return my pre-order Da Vince speedy and exchange to one normal speedy, one normal NF, so I can be normal with expensive taste lol [emoji41]

This collaboration brought me back to TPF..... been a while since I was ever so excited about a new launch. I am neutral to differing preference and there is nothing wrong with "I dun like it" but some of the posts seemed to suggest that this collaboration/design have offended them. I can only count my blessings that my social circle irl is very accommodating towards my unusual taste in bags. This is afterall a forum with mostly strangers that we will never meet.

I am still undecided: Van Gogh or Rubens? Also, titan is growing on me...

Hi @chinchin_lim , long time!!!!!! Hope all is well.

I can't agree more with what you said there haha. I wonder why.

I was drawn to Van Gogh's colors first but I thought that I would like Rubens more as it's more striking.
