Hey guys... I have to admit I was amazingly tempted to order a van gogh neverfull .. but then I got thinking - neverfull's are really designed to be working bags (as in bags you actually use to carry things in) yet I can't see the masters neverfulls being used as such as they'd wear and the print would damage... so what's the point in making this available in this type of bag? ... I hate it how companies now don't seem to care if bags don't last more than a couple of years as long as you buy it. Anyway - I purchased the Van Gogh chain clutch instead as I thought it would make a nice occasional evening bag.

This is a good choice. I was considering between Speedy and Chain wallet, but then I go for Speedy because I have already collected some speedies over the years, it will be an unique piece in my collection.

I ordered the corail one, I am glad it will not be so popular that everyone will order one
I went with the Vert d'eau. I have missed out on some LE and when I get around to it..people are selling it for double and more. Like with the recent race line (?) So bold..kinda hated was my first impression but then the more I looked at the details I started to like it.
More for us who likes this new collection.. I'm thinking of what other item I might get.

This collection is not designed with a typical corporate working woman in mind. Its price point and controversial aspects scream collectible.

I think NF is too expensive, maybe because of the size and more leather they use? My budget is 2000E (I was going to buy Lockmito) and my SA help me to exchange to Speedy Da Vinci, so thanks for TPF! with information!
All my Speedy bags are the bandoulière version, so I know I won't get as much use out of the classic one... but DAMN, THAT NEVERFULL COSTS A TON.
The Speedy costs the equivalent to around US$ 3,300 in my country. I don't know if it's worth it for me. :(
I have to think about this thoroughly.

Noooooo lady, leave your kidneys alone!!! it's not worth loosing your organs for
You're right, they'll certainly last longer [emoji23]

You know your Aunty Trish? She's over 50 but wears a lot of hats and fur stoles and enjoys a nice pair of lime green capris. She's over 50 and considers herself "funky" and "in the art scene." She's not un-stylish, you can appreciate her for going out on a limb, always "mixing it up." Jeff Koon's new collaboration with Louis Vuitton is your Aunty Trish.

Now, the long-standing problem with statement handbags is that they are still accessories, which means they accessorize your actual outfit. It's difficult to wear a patterned handbag, certainly, but do you know what's really freaking hard? To adorn your body with leather, screen-printed with the damn Mona Lisa, but that's what Louis Vuitton and Jeff Koons want you to do with their new collection Masters.

The goal of the collection was to, apparently "eradicate elitism" (although if spending four grand to on something that holds your things doesn't say elite, what does) and Louis Vuitton CEO told The Times the brand expects "pushback" for taking the greatest art ever created and putting it on bags.

"People are going to be upset about the sacred entering the realm of the profane," he said. "But we like to do things that can be perceived as politically incorrect. If we are getting flak, we think we are doing something right."

Alrighty, then. Well at least we all know what Aunty Trish's birthday present will be this year.

The juxtaposition of trying to "eradicate elitism" at price points that are typically reserved for the upper class...

I agree most part of your statement. But I notice in South East Asia this maybe isnt. A lot of ladies will buy and sell their bags after a season of use or a year of use. They sell it to bag consignment store there's plenty on the high street in eg hong kong and japan. They are then able to afford to upscale for the next newer handbag. Plus in these countries they are able to take out small loans, collateral against these designer bags, it's a big profitable business model. Ownership for the long term of a bag isn't a big part in these countries but rather being able to experience, carry a new bag for a little while, then move on to the next is more appealing. Hence why so many preloved item's come from these parts of the world.
This is typical in Japan too.

Dear Lord I thought this Koons collab was actually a joke until I read about this in the Times. Tsk tsk Koons. I do not care if this was inspired from his gazing ball series. Taking the greatest masters from art history and slapping their works on handbags and shawls is a travesty. And the prices on these bags? Sorry but I'd rather buy a plane ticket to NY, France, Italy and Germany to see these masterpieces in person. (Cringing) And this is just my personal opinion as an art historian in my former life so please don't take offense!

I don't understand how people call this "Koon's art." This is literally screen prints of famous artists' work on classic bags. He did not even try to come up with original pieces. He just picked out the bag colors and slapped on the artist name in huge, bulky metal. So, if you don't know the paintings you at least get which artist whom created it. It makes the LV monogram look like an afterthought design, placed in the corners, that ruins the whole classic, renaissance feel. I'm soo bummed!! I was expecting to be wowed. I am wowed that Koon actually picked the Palm Springs back pack along with the classics
But see...the question then becomes "What is art?".

Many people here would consider the design of Louis Vuitton bags to be art. Just about everyone considers Da Vinci, Van Gogh, etc. to be art.

Why is the collision of the two no longer art? Again: what is art?

This kind of challenging of ideas is what is interesting and exciting to me.

What Koons did is definitely not art but as I said above I was an art historian in a former life. Some people like you think art is subjective. I think if you asked the old masters Michelangelo, Titian, Da Vinci etc and even artists from the 19th or 20 century like Eakins, Cole, Pollock, Rivera, and even Warhol I can guarantee you that they would not have seen these as art. These are products meant for mass consumption. Not art. Sorry.
