gooddog, you are seriously my hero... good luck with your PHd, that is amazing. I have to ask your opinion, what do you think of Cesar Millan and his training methods? A lot of corgi people don't like him, and think his methods are archaic. would like to hear your thoughts
polar is great, nothing phases her. dusty grew up on the side of a mountain in tennessee with his breeder and never got socialized. i got him 5 years ago (on Christmas day, in fact), and he's come a long way since then but is incredibly sound sensitive and easily spooked (typical of the breed). i have to think that the lack of socialization at an early age is largely to do with his shyness. the first day we got him, he ran away from us at antietam national battleground in maryland... now I know he was terrified but back then, all I could do was pray and make deals with all kinds of deities. It worked, because he came back and let us "catch" him. I'm still under contract to lesser Indian gods till like, 2056.
to those of you who don't know what antietam is, its a huge battle ground over i don't know how many acres, but if he had jumped the stonewall fence, it would have been all over. it was easily one of the scariest experiences in my life.
now, i know he would run back to me, but back then, he didn't know who we were, and he was absolutely terrified. he's taught me so much, and he's the gentlest soul ever.
