Wow ... I know the bucket design is classic, but their use of the contrasting lining is pretty ballsy. If I were on the MG team, I might be looking for a way to put a stop to this one (especially the black with red interior -- looks like a total rip-off!).

Dooney will probably claim that the interior color is only at the edge of the opening vs. the MG that has the color throughout.

Just got my first bucket bag in the mail yesterday! A black/flamma mini mini from Bergdorf :) The size is perfect and fits all the essentials including my sunglasses. It looks really cute with my little fur pom pom keychain. Will post pics soon if anyone is curious about the size proportions.

Seconded, mini or large. And let us know how you like it
I have the large backpack in black/flamma and really like it. The leather is beautiful and I am surprised by how many people (both men and women) have noticed and complemented me when carrying it around. It looks smaller and more compact than most backpacks but I can actually fit my macbook air, gym clothes/shoes, lunch, and makeup pouch inside for work. I have even carried it in the rain/snow in Boston and it remains unscathed. I feel like when I tie the strings together my belongings are quite secure.

For downsides, I would say that it can be tedious to open and close with the drawstring and it would be more functional if it came with an outside pocket to make some items more accessible. You also need to be careful not to overstuff it or yank on the strings -the little string loop popped off completely for me (to my horror) and MG customer support quickly replaced it. (if you get the canvas backpack then it is probably much easier to close.) Like the bucket bags, the leather will be very stiff when it first arrives, but even after a few days it seems to be less so.

Overall it's a gorgeous bag! I posted a photo a while back of just the bag but will try to take some mod shots for the thread next week.

Hi there--

long time lurker, first time posting.

I just got the mini backpack in black/black-- and I'm still not sure if I love it as much as my bucket bag. It's a little bit smaller than I had thought- It holds a water bottle, wallet, sunnies, and a scarf/small sweater pretty well, but that's about it. Generally-- this is about all that I want to carry on a weekend running around and doing stuff. I got the bag for this purpose, because my large bucketbag was getting heavy as it fills with stuff, and it's nicer for day trips/errands to have the backpack. I love carrying it as a shoulder bag, with both straps slung over one shoulder. I do think that it's a little nicer than the huge large backpack, since I'm not in school or anything I never wanted something that was too big. I have also noticed that the straps don't adjust the way I really want them to. I like to wear my backpacks pretty low, so the straps are not long enough for me and there's no real way to adjust them properly the way the rivets/holes are positioned. I am hoping that with some time the leather will stretch a little and soften so that the bag hits me more properly. (FYI I'm 5'7" with pretty broad shoulders).

As for the leather-- with the coated inside it's a lot stiffer than I'd like. In fact, I'm thinking of trading or selling it in order to get a raw interior. The bag doesn't really tie shut because it is so stiff, and the flap on top is difficult to secure- you have to thread the drawstrings through a loop on the bucket part of the bag, and then also through a loop on the top flap portion of the bag, and it only really works well if the backpack isn't very full. The interior pocket is laughably small. I don't even know what you could fit inside it other than an ID and a few credit cards, and then it's so stiff that the cards are difficult to get out. Why they bothered to add a zipper to it is a little confusing because there's no need to zip it shut. Again, maybe with a few more months of wear it will be softer.

In comparison, I have the large bucket bag in black/raw, and I absolutely love it. I've had it for about 8 months now and with daily use it's developed a great patina and has softened a LOT. It's buttery soft now, without the stiffness that comes with the coated interior, and it doesn't loose it's shape like the pebbled leather, in fact, I think it's just about perfect now and I've done nothing to condition it at all. I can fully close the top with the drawstrings because the raw interior has let the bag soften with use over time. The weight of it is a dream-- I used to carry this vintage pebbled leather Celine bucket bag that weighed so much, I replaced it with the MG bucket and it's perfect.

Here are some pics for comparison:
1. MG large bucket bag (8 months wear) vs. brand new mini backpack (sorry for poor quality *edit* also sorry that it's upside down! i blame the uploader for that.. sorry)
2. Mini backpack glamour shot
3. Celine vs. MG bucket bag when brand new

Sorry for the long post.
Cheers!

Very helpful review! I definitely agree that the raw interior would make the backpack a little more malleable and easier to close. I think that would make it a little more practical. But I just love the bright flamma color inside *sigh* :)

My bag finally came and it's gorgeous! I do agree that it is very stiff and I hope that it does get softer with time. However, the one thing I noticed was that his bag is also kinda noisy, for lack of better word. I think it is due to the leather being so stiff. Has anyone else noticed this and has it reduced over time?

Yes, the squeaky noise goes away after a week or so. I have been using mine for two weeks now, and I notice that the string is getting a bit softer. So yeah, let's hope our bags will soften up over time! [emoji6]

Dooney will probably claim that the interior color is only at the edge of the opening vs. the MG that has the color throughout.

I saw this in person today at Nordstrom! The similarities are kinda ridiculous. The leather feels similar to MG--kinda stiffer, however more pliable and of lesser quality (imo). The interior color is throughout the inside of the bag, not just the edge. What got me was that it also came with a pouch, just like MG. Idk if that's "inspired" or complete imitation. I actually used to like Dooney & Burke, but that's a complete rip off. Michael Kor's bucket bag looks blatantly similar too.
