@textilegirl @Bdbunny @hbr @Fixxi totally agree! It’s like any other human relationship/interaction! Maybe it’s because I associated “appointments” in a medical sense and just assumed they’re hour long slots and self-imposed the time limits haha. It’s definitely more fun for me to be able to have a more personal connection too. My SA and I definitely “clicked” in the 2 visits I’ve made to the store and have had fun. I’m looking forward to having a longer appointment and being able to chat a little more. My poor DH has been the involuntary audience of all my Hermès chatter hahah and it would be nice to converse in person with someone who also is an enthusiast. While bag offers would be, of course, great, I genuinely feel like since I’ve gotten some vintage bags, it’s honestly has fulfilled that craving for bags and made me want to see and enjoy other Hermès offerings and explore that. So my definition for a “successful” relationship with a SA is just someone who I can make a connection with and have fun shopping with who gets my clothing style. My dream bags are all push offers so I know they’ll probably take a lifetime to acquire so I’m in it for the very long haul haha. If a bag offer happens, awesome, but otherwise I’m happy shopping other metiers and building a relationship

Curious- my SA will be on vacation next time I’m in town and can stop by the boutique. Is there any advantage to stopping by even if my SA won’t be there? Seems like a logical answer but just thought I’d ask 🙏

Your pre-spend will still count if you shop with the assistant manager and your SA gets all the credit. In that case, you also get to talk to the assistant manager and get to know the store more. But I am not sure whether this option is offered in all boutiques. This is how my home store works.

how does that work? Do you call and ask to make an appointment with the asst manager? Do you just walk in and ask for the manager?

I probably wouldnt go in if my SA was not there but I’m super local and have been known to be in once a week (usually because things I’ve ordered show up sporadically 😬😬😳😳)

Oh that’s good to know! I’ve actually met the manager of the store so if he’s there I could def stop by and say hello.

In my case, I inquired my SA's availability via text for a date that he happened to be not available. He replied me to ask for the assistant manager. Later during my chat with the assit manager on that day, he told me that they work closely together, he doesn't do sales, but will cover whenever an SA is not available for the client and the same SA will get all the commission. YMMV.

Like @Letter , I personally prefer to wait for my SA to be there, but if you are long distance and want to shop, I would just g9 in. For small things, I don’t think it matters. For larger items, you could ask your SA who to ask for or if he wants to give his SM a heads up, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. I don’t think everything is about prespend. Just shop like you would any other store. The timing has to be convenient for you after all. Don’t overthink. JMO

Thank you! Perhaps I’ll ask my SA and see how it plays out.

Does your SA often offer to transfer items for you? I read that doing this should benefit both the SA and the store but is there a “minimum” price threshold to make it worth the hassle/not be annoying to SAs?
Each store/SA has different rules and style. All you can do is request an item from your SA and trust that they will procure said item for you in whichever avenue is most advantageous for them at that time. In other words, don’t worry about it.

Agree with @acrowcounted and @Letter , but I also want to say that you are the one shopping, and if you want something, you should ask for it. I wouldn’t continually bombard my SA with a ton of individual small requests (that would be exhausting and an SA is not a short order waitress after all) but client service is their job :)

I’m just wondering when folks go into the boutique for an appointment with their SA, how long do you typically spend at your appointment? An hour?

My SA has never rushed me or mentioned to me that there’s another appointment but I try to be conscientious about my SA likely having appointments after me and keep mine to an hour, just in case. After trying on RTW pieces (a mix of pieces I’ve told her I was interested in and she also brings some pieces she thinks I might like), I find there isn’t a whole lot of time to check out other metiers that I wanted to check out. I know, another good reason to go back to the boutique… The only thing is I live 3 hours away (assuming no traffic) and want try to make the most of my visits…I can probably spend several hours in H lol. Just curious, since I feel like with doctors/dental/etc appointments, it’s a defined allotted time slot, but with H, as usual, I never know lol.
I try to be in and out in an hour, but I always asked if we needed to watch the time. He usually said no that he always booked extra time because he liked to chat with me. If I was still noodling around after 45 minutes or so though, trying on shoes (or usually trying to make a decision) and my SA has someone he needs to see for whatever reason, I’d just assure him I’m fine and to go do his thing. I’m sorry to say that waiting on him and keeping myself occupied at H was never a problem.

I am between SAs at the moment, but used to always ask if he wanted to try to get the thing or if it was too much of a hassle and wanted me to get it. He always said basically, “no job is too big or too small.” It probably also helped that there’s nothing really that I’d die if I didn’t get.
