Is it better to "remind" them of our relationship with them by buying jewelry rather than silk or small leather goods? I know there's no rule, but just wondering if that is generally true?

Just spoke with my mother who’s been lusting over an exotic birkin for just over a year now. So far she hasn’t had any luck with her long time local SA. My mom dropped by the store today and enquired about an exotic constance bag and her SA really perked up. When my mom asked if this would affect her chances of being offered an exotic B, her SA actually said it would help. I was shocked! How could something so hard to come by count as a way to up your purchase history?? I know a constance isn’t a quota item, but still…

Long story short, I guess there’s no hard and fast rule about what you need to buy in order to get what you want.

I thought a Constance was a quota item. Regardless, hope your mom gets her exotic B!

Thank you for the information and your insight! I hear all sorts of different things. I guess it's best just to stick to what you want to get anyway, and the bag or other item will come when it's time. I'm glad your mom will hopefully get two things she wants.

I'm sorry to sound like a total idiot but what exactly is a quota item? Thank you, thank you!

There is so much H lingo to keep up with on here lol. A quota item is something like a birkin or kelly where the sales manager/sales associate can control the number of those bags that you receive in a year. Typically, it's one quota bag every six months, but there are exceptions and variations between boutiques.

And yes I know several people who have become exempt from this rule because they give H a lot of business. But I think the rule holds true for most people.
