Hi! I want to build a relationship with a local SA at my local Hermes... but I think I live in a competitive area. My closest Hermes is in South Coast Plaza (California/Orange County)... where would you suggest I start building a relationship? And are there any recommendations for a nice kind SA in that store? Or would you build a relationship in another store?

I just read some of your comments and I think we both frequent the same store! I'll send you a private message if you don't mind.
Just want to chime in here that although smaller sizes are hard to come by where you are, competition is at another level with the sister store toward the end of the year. It might be easier to get a lindy there, but anything 25 or smaller have a LONG waitlist and high ratio spending was expected. And their new buyers are local (hawaii/vegas/europe no longer an option). I shop with your home store (same as thelucky1) so I think you need to think twice before you switch. I have had multiple people from the other store inquiring about our store, as they feel it's a hopeless game where they are.

I have started shopping at H over the last year or so. I'm not sure if this is specific to my store but whenever I am interested in buying an item that they don't have in their boutique, they tell me just to order it online (I mention I saw x on the site and would like to buy it). I'm confused because I was under the impression that the SA would rather I buy from them to earn their commission?

very true. Before we moved we were clients of the bigger store and while we had a great relationship with our SA it took a while to get offers for smaller bags.

I started shopping at SCP this year and have had some luck there. I think it is very competitive, but it's not impossible. I've heard that going to Vegas might be easier...or even Hawaii when we can start traveling freely again. You can message me for my SA when you decide which store you want to try!

Thanks for your insight! I actually had a really good chat with my SA and I understand where she's coming from. It seems like I'll probably not get an offer this year so we'll see how it goes next year. And if something turns up before that, then it will be a nice bonus for 2020!

Question for those that could possibly chime in or have similar experiences on taking hiatus - as life priorities change, I feel that I won’t be keeping this up this year and may need to take a break just to spend the extra cash on other things. What happens if I take a hiatus? Do I have to in a sense “rebuild” my relationship? Or should I still make an effort to pop into the store every few months? I’m thinking I’ll work for a quota come 2022 instead and I also think the bag I want wont be available anyways until then.

If you’ve hit it off with an SA, they should just pick up where you left off. No different than regulars saying “no thank you” to offers for a long time until something they love comes in.

Thinking the same! Pls share what you find out! Thank you

I've taken several long hiatuses, including a 24-month one where I bought absolutely nothing (at most a battery for my watch and a blank notebook refill) that ended with a call for a wishlist B... Make sure that the SM knows your wishlist and if possible, maintain your relationship to your SA if you get along.

Thank you! Did you kind of let your SA know your situation? I don’t want to just fall off the earth and appear a year later haha I guess that’s what you mean by maintain the relationship? As in an occasionally email or text?

Thank you I was just afraid that I’ll be gone too long they kind of forget me :(

Speaking as someone who works in sales (although not for Hermes) I feel Its important to keep up communication with your SA.
In this year of all years they will understand.
I appreciate my clients saying they won't be spending so much this year-if at all- because of school fees, circumstances changing etc, because then they're not just off my radar and I know their situation but still touch base just to make sure they are well.
I think its best to be honest-they won't forget you and will appreciate you not just disappearing without knowing why.

Exactly, an occasional email or text is great. Best wishes for important holidays, etc.

You said it in a nutshell. Disclose what you feel comfortable telling them, but I think your SA will appreciate that you're loyal to the brand and not just taking your $ elsewhere without explanation.

You should keep in touch just don’t buy anything.

thank you everyone! I wouldn’t say I hit it off with my SA, but she tries to get me what I ask for for the most part but she’s also extremely busy as she has many clients and I’m not really her top priority client. Often times we exchange greetings and have more personal chats when I go into the store but usually not via email or texts. I will probably go if I can and able to and have a chat with her.
