I moved from east coast to west coast (USA). I really love my home store and my sa. Is it possible to still use the same home store? Since H doesn’t offer phone order, it is really inconvenient to shop there, but I do love my sa. Frustrated

They do offer phone order on most things and will make exceptions for long standing clients. SLGs and Bags are the items that require additional management approval for phone ordering. Everything else is fair game (though I do wonder about expensive fine jewelry items.) However, if you ever want to shop in person on the west coast, it might be worth it to ask your SA for a recommendation of a new SA at your nearest store.

I relocated cities on the east coast and have continued to shop with my original SA! We mostly discuss over email and phone, and she is currently tracking down a bag (not B or K) that she will mail to my new home address.

They are more than happy to do phone orders for jewelry pieces. I never had any issues with SLGs. As for bags, there are guidelines and all of our known unbreakable rules have been broken or offered to be broken. I mean ALL.

This might be an ignorant question but... Does this stuff apply to people who are into H for the silk? I fell completely in love with the scarves after a chance encouter and have gotten a few scarves and twillies second-hand, yet I'm too shy to actually enter to a real store... I feel too unsophisticated and like they will not take me seriously for being young and ESL, but I love their different window displays every time I travel.

Take a deep breath and walk in. If you are genuinely enthusiastic for the silk and want to buy because you love it (not because an Hermes scarf is a trophy to wear) you should be welcomed. Don't put yourself down for being young - you are the potential customer of the future.
Do look on the website and try to become informed about the different designs and colorways - even do a print out of something that you are interested in.

King.Ray - this is really good advice. No matter what, in the end SA's want to sell, and the GOOD SA's will see you as someone who in the future will end up being a really good client. I started luxury shopping at a (looking back, hilariously) young age and guess what, those same SA's are still around in the retail game and it has REALLY benefited me (I've known my H SA for 15+ years, and not just from H). I started small too! I wasn't buying 5 figure bags in my early teens, lol.

You mention feeling shy and unsophisticated - I'm sure you're just being hard on yourself! But think of this as good practice in how to be comfortable in various/unfamiliar settings. It'll help you in the future! Good luck!

hello,

For someone who has never purchased an Hermes item, is there a secret to buying a Birkin 25 or 30 black leather bag? Is it true you cannot go to a boutique and buy one and you have to buy smaller items until you reach a certain amount ( I heard $10k at minimum) before you can buy one? Do dept stores sell the Birkin bags? Also what is the cost of a 25 vs a 30 and what color is more popular/desireable?

Sorry if these are dumb questions. I’m a guy who doesn’t know much about these things and thinking of surprising his wife.

It's really sweet that you want to surprise your wife. I'm not an expert, but for the most part, no you can't just go in and buy a Birkin at the store. You can buy Birkins from resellers and there are some very reputable ones. If you only want the handbag and your wife does not love other items Hermes sells, this may be a better option for you. My husband was stunned also, several years ago, when he wanted to buy me my first Birkin and he couldn't just buy it that day.
I think it may vary among stores for the minimum to spend for a bag offer, but it's definitely in the thousands. I believe the gold hardware is a bit more popular, but I would make sure of what your wife wants before you buy a bag. There are a few different leathers in addition to hardware and colors. For me, the Birkin in size 30 is perfect and I'm 5' 5", average weight. I'm sure others will chime in with more info and details. Good luck!
