Do they speak English at the Ginza store? Someone I know who had been to Japan prior raised some concerns about there being a potential language barrier. I just wanted check the availability of an item for my upcoming trip. May I also get this info? Many thanks!

I was at the Ginza store about a week ago. Stock is dismal… yen is low and everyone has been buying not to mention low stock. There was no Alhambra pendants, bracelets or earrings. Not sure what you are after but unless it is an unpopular item or high jewellery chances are slim. The SA showed me a 20k+ earrings. Side note Chanel stock was bad too…

This was exactly my experience. I was in a Ginza boutique mid October one day before the price increase. Very low stock. I managed to get a GMOP vintage pendant. The only other thing she showed me was the Frivole mini earrings in pave. I wasn’t interested. I asked for the mother of pearl LE necklace but they said no stock. I wondered at the time if it was true or not (only reserved for VIPs) but seems it may have been. They had no Alhambra earrings in any size. I would’ve purchased sweet or vintage size if they had stock. No 5 motif bracelets either. Also yes big language barrier as I don’t speak Japanese. My SA spoke basic conversational English and I felt like our communication wasn’t great if I’m being honest but also didn’t really bother me because I’m in Japan so what’s the expectation you know? I didn’t have an appointment and they were giving people a “number” and telling them to come back. Hardly felt like a luxury experience and I almost walked away twice but figured OK I took a taxi here and made all the effort I’m not going to leave haha. At the end of the day, I’m happy with my purchase.

I will say that it seems that both the Alhambra line and Frivole line are popular in Japan. I saw many Japanese women sporting a vintage Alhambra pendant most commonly in MOP (by a mile) followed by GMOP. I believe there’s cultural significance there with pearls so I’m not surprised.

@silliex But my general takeaway is that for VCA, Chanel, Hermes, if you’re visiting Japan and interested in shopping in the coming months definitely manage your expectations (some people are very specific about their asks trying to source a popular or rare piece) and try to reach out to an SA before you arrive to make an appointment. I think you will have a better experience that way.

The stock level in Japan has been bad the past few years, and customer service at the GINZA SIX store is one of the worse in the world - the Ginza Maison might be better but I usually do my shopping at the GINZA SIX store to get Platinum status with the GINZA SIX mall. Hong Kong is much better for stock level right now, I was just there a week ago, the HK SAs are knowledgeable about the brand and helpful in tracking down the pieces that they didn't have in the store - the SAs in Ginza seem to have no interest in selling anything, and these days you can't even get into the store unless you make an appointment in advance.

Thanks for this info on stock level in Japan and about no walk-ins. Unfortunately there don’t seem to be any appointments available 2 weeks before Christmas. I am going to try my luck and see if I can get into any of the Vca locations in Tokyo. Will report back!
