Definitely, I’d say go for it..I love alligator , but I’m currently having a leather jacket made, accented with Porusus crocodile from the Toyo Hikaku tanneries in Japan.Yes it is. The atelier have suggested I do a Porosus version of my own Horizon, in a different size, with modifications. I haven't decided yet.
Yes, just don’t make it so small that phone etc and other essentials don’t fit in-I ended up selling a framboise coloured crocodile Dior bag I’d bought in Paris when I moved there, as nothing fitted into it once I had a larger phone!xSome extra information to add to this thread.
Obviously similar to ordering subsequent pairs of shoes at John Lobb once the lasts are made, repeat orders of one's Horizon item are much faster and also the original design fee which is part of the quote, by the artistic design team, is no longer included. This was explained me by my SA in some detail so they only need to estimate materials and the man hours needed by the artisans to complete the project. I am certainly expecting a difference in the quote for Sac PG28 version II, with the option of exotic leathers instead of my original Heritage, but perhaps making a mini version this time.
interesting. Can't wait to hear more about itFor fellow US based folks, just learned that there is an upcoming Horizons cocktail event in California in September. Sounds like a pretty big cocktail party + showcases of horizon projects. Previously I’ve seen people posting about similar events in other countries and it also have people from the Horizon department to chat about potential ideas for your project. In case anyone is going I hope you have lots of fun![]()
My one experience with Horizon put me off ever trying it again. After the initial meeting, there was some back and forth about measurements before they finally announced many months after that first meeting that they had a design ready to present to me. However, even though they had explained to me at the first meeting exactly what you just outlined, that they would present a design mock-up and description before I gave my approval to proceed, they changed the process on me. When they claimed they had a design ready to present they quoted me some astronomical price and then stated that I had to put 20% down before I saw the design and if I did not like the design when I saw it, my deposit was non refundable. I declined and ended the process at that point. I found their attitude very off-putting and bizarre, to put it mildly. I know many others have had great experiences with Horizon and wish I could say the same.Well you do get presented with the design mock-up and description before you finalise everything and give your approval to proceed. That's the stage when I requested that some changes be made. For most clients, this would
only be a one time thing as well. Please do keep us updated.

This was my first bespoke experience with H but not my first bespoke experience. I’ve worked with several designers on various pieces over a number of years. I’m used to design fees being spelled out up front and am comfortable with non refundable design fees in the event that we cannot come to an agreement on a final design. Excluding this experience with H, I’ve only had one project where the designer and I could not come to an agreement on a final design. The final design I was shown was drop dead gorgeous but just not suitable imo for the purpose I had in mind and the designer was not willing to adjust her design any further. I paid the design / breakup fee with no hard feelings on either side and am currently working with that same designer on another piece. That breakup up fee compensated the designer for time plus materials. We had spent a year discussing and refining the project before she presented me with the final design and I respected the time and effort she put into the project. The 20% non refundable downpayment that Horizon demanded before I saw even a single sketch imo went way beyond covering any costs their design team could have incurred during the design process. Other than asking me to confirm a few measurements, I had zero input in the design process so the final design they came up with was a total mystery to me. I thought at the time that they may have decided part way through the design process that this wasn’t something they wanted to proceed with and rather than just say a straightforward we changed our minds and don’t want to proceed, they set terms that they didn’t think I’d agree to. Jmo and I could have totally misread the situation and their intentions. At any rate it’s just one of the things I chalk up to the oddities of dealing with H. It hasn’t put me off the brand. Over the years, I‘ve had many great experiences and a few not so great experiences with H but that would be true of any brand if you deal with a brand long enough.I think the request to put 20% down is H's way to ensure they will get the money back for whatever resources/manpower they invested in the project. Totally agree that this did not sound like a good experience. You did right to end the process at that point, provided that you had not seen the design and the deposit was non-refundable.
