Interesting! Thank you. I recently got a pair of Chanel sunnies and they are certainly nice (and have polarized lenses, which is great) and they feel ‘appropriately priced’. The LVs are 250$ more so I guess I’m expecting them to be superior to the Chanels (though they don’t have polarized lenses which is kind of a bummer, at $765 they should)…..we’ll seeThe quality is definitely there. Keep in mind that not all acetate (plastic) are created with equal quality. The lack of distortion, weight, density, color variability, finish and balance of the frame may seem like inconsequential details but play a huge part on how the frames feel when placed on your face and how they perform over time. It’s not just about the name. You really are paying for premium materials and construction. I may be mistaken but I believe the contract for manufacturing is with Marcolin with designing interests from Thelios. All based in Italy. Marcolin have dedicated manufacturing lines strictly for LV unlike Chanel glasses which are manufactured on regular “en masse” lines with Luxottica. It won’t be listed on any of their sites because LV retains all marketing and distributing rights. I personally have two pairs of LV sunglasses, monogram cat eye and the mini soft link. It’s been about three years for the first pair and still going strong. I think you can rest easy in knowing you have made a good quality purchase.
When did this happen? I just noticed that they no longer show where the glasses are made. (Most used to be made in France or Japan)...sad to hear production has shifted to Italy. The quality is definitely there. Keep in mind that not all acetate (plastic) are created with equal quality. I couldn’t remember exactly but I found this press statement released in 2021 that referenced the initial agreement in 2017. So maybe the releases from the last 3-4 seasons would have been produced there? I assume it would take 1-2 years to implement the transition completely and work through all the back stock. I have several made in Japan frames (Dita, Matsuda etc) that I adore. I doubt a big conglomerate like LVMH would scale back high volume production to making small batches of a niche design. When did this happen? Great info, thanks for sharing and good to know about the sizing and quality. An update: I picked them up yesterday. Ended up exchanging the W for the E style. The nose bridge on the W was too wide. They’re quite solid. Honestly if they were any heavier I would have returned them bc I’d be worried they’d give me headaches. They have lovely details like the LV flowers at the end of the ear stems and custom LV embossed hinges. Compared with the Chanel’s I got from the new collection the LVs are of higher quality (hence the price points). But, the Chanel’s fit me better right out of the box and are more comfortable. I was not impressed with either brand’s cases, and the LV didn’t come with a cleaning cloth while the Chanel’s did. All that said, I’m keeping them both
As with many of LVs items, I think they’re a bit overpriced for what they are. But, most of us will just keep on buying anyway!![]()
I've tried the 1.1 Millionaires and I have a delicate face so when I looked down they almost fell off my nose. So I bought these ones and oh my god, I love themGreat info, thanks for sharing and good to know about the sizing and quality.
Thanks everyone and @blushnbellinlvoe for the background info.
Does anyone have experience with the 1.1 Millionaires from Virgil's time? Or other Men's sunnies, especially if worn by women? I lvoe the styles but can't decide on a colour. And I have seen in store before, they are not polarised which is a turnoff for me. But, they are so striking! Thanks for any info![]()
