I think that we all need to wake up and smell the coffee. IMO, I would not be surprised to find out that our Made in France, Spain and Italy bags are really Made in China already. Like I have said in the past.... EVIAN spelled backwards is NAIVE!!

I don't really care where my LVs are made, as long as the quality and high standaras are maintained. In the end that's all that matters.

I think that the Made in India stuff will mainly be sold in Asia and maybe to New Zealand and Australia, we won't see them in Europe or the Americas. I read somewhere that LV is trying to improve their supply chain to the Asian market, to meet the growing worldwide demand. It makes sense, a very big part of their sales are in Japan (I read 30% somewhere), so a factory in Asia makes sense. I don't think it differs from having production in Spain, the US or Italy, that's not France either.

*slipping off my soapbox*

ITA, I dont care where my bags are made as long as they are ok.

It really doesn't matter and long as the standards of LV are kept at the same level when I 100% believe they will be. In terms of if you want a French brand to be made in France, understandable. But what in the past few summers when Indian kurtas were all the rage! And you could pick them up from H&M and Old Navy and even high-end stores for up to $200 (and probably more..the most I seen were $200). Kurtas are 100% Indian and they weren't made in India. Just because it originally came from a certain country doesn't mean that it's going to be made there.

Production is needed for the masses. So a factory is a factory no matter where it is. The product is going to be one and the same.

They can make stories as much they want, true or not.. The point is that I*m buying a french design article and i want it to be made in france. It's not the same thing. IF they had an "Indian mystery"-collection, then sure.. Or made something from elepahnt hide. But not monogram. I'd even return it if it was made in the US.

Elephant hide? :wtf:

I haven't read this whole thread so don't know if anyone posted this before, but I read something about how mary kate and ashley allowed their workers in bangladesh to go on maternity leave.. and they were one of the first companies to do that. so I guess since learning that these companies don't even allow maternity leaves in 3rd world countries, LV is planning to go to India to save money. I mean they won't have to allow rights to these workers which means that they will be high in production. It's sad to pay over a $1000 for a bag and now learn that the ppl who will be making these bags are gonna get a $5 and no rights.. NOT FAIR.

Please read my previous posts on how LV pays the minimum wage NO MATTER where they make their items, including France. In France, the factory workers earn the SMIC and it's equivalent to €1,200-1300 / month. That is not enough to feed your family in France and the prices there are skyrocketing all the time b/c of high unemployment and problems with the "pouvoir d'achat" or "Buying Power" - basically your €uros in France don't get you far enough to survive.

All the workers in the factories are doing mindless, repetitive tasks and can't afford the LV items, even during the 80% VAP internal sales. Plus, they aren't even 'artists' or 'artisans', they're just factory workers like we have factory workers in vehicle construction facilities in the U.S..

Basically, LVMH will be employing all of the people's in the respetive locations, and while adapting them to their workflow and certainly in better conditions than in other places in India, those workers would nonetheless be doing the SAME tasks as a French low-wage factory worker.

we're gonna have to move this thread to the kitchen forum!

I totally agree! while we are on the subject of Made in France, I just realised that I like things that are made in France. My pots are Le creuset and made in france! I tried buying some cast iron pots that are cheaper and made in China and they are not the same! I love my Le creuset pots. But their ceramic stuff are made in Thailand! So i might have to buy ceramic from Emile Henry instead or move to Fiesta. at least Fiesta is made in USA!
Anyway I am so glad I got a speedy from France! Maybe I should hurry up and got more pieces before that made in India pieces show show up here!
But from another perspective, LV may just be dabbling in new market for its products, and making them where the demands are does help. Does anybody knows the exact population of India? I think it's closed to I BILLION PEOPLE! Every body is trying to capture this market! If you can sell a million bags or computer or anything else you are going to make money! and they are selling these products at the same price or more to the people there and here in the western countries! China and India have very huge market and the number of people who can afford luxuries goods there are increasing at very phenominal rate. So we in the west might not even see the Made in India bags here as the demands there will be great.
So my opinion is LV is just trying to position themselves in these emerging markets and get a piece of the pie like everybody else!!

I agree with La Liberte, a brand that is selling "made in France" should have origins in a country that they are selling. Take a look at the LV website under "history". You will see a video of "craftsmen" in a beautifull studio, handcrafting the bags that most of you love and spend thousands on. This is the luxury fantasy that Louis Vuitton is marketing to its cutomers.

Personally I don't want a mass produced watered down version of what I bought in to. It has nothing to do with snobbery. For the astronomical price LV charges, I just want a bag that is as was advertised "made in france" period.
I will not purchase Lv made in India for that reason, I guess there is always Hermes or vintage. Very poor decision by LV in my opinion, perhaps your Sa's should be informed?

made in france, spain, USA, germany, italy whatever is the same thing IMO.
I just can't understand why some costumers preffer made in france it is a bit ridiculous to be honest, I mean have you actually BEEN in person in the factory in France how can u be sure it looks so much different of what it would look in india or china or congo or wherever???
I am sure they have the money and I hope they have also the ethics to put a proper and good factory anywhere in the world...

My thoughts exactly!

I don't get why people even have to state where it's made. :shrugs: As long as it's an authentic, I really won't fuss over it. IMHO

I won't be surprised if this decision causes a stir in France, where LV is based. LV is France's number one brand, and the regulations concerning labor, wages, work weeks, and vacations are much stricter in Europe than in India, or even the US for that matter. I hope that once LV does business in Asia, it can resist the temptation to uproot its Western manufacturing in favor of cheaper labor and less regulation. Many American and European companies have fallen to that temptation, leaving many people jobless.
