After all this fuss.. I wonder if LV continues to increase its price?? I can accept if the price increase is for a better leather/canvas or increase in workers' wage in France or Italy but for this...??

I don't mind paying soo much if the bags are made in France or Italy. I love LV and have made LV purchases before but I now feel that having those bags made in India or China make it less exclusive.

There is also another problem with outsourcing, which I know from personal experience. I have mentioned this elsewhere in this forum.

Many factories in export zones of third world countries do not destroy overstocks or closeouts as they are instructed to do. They sell them on the local market.

An example: Many of you probably buy and wear Victorias Secret bras. If you look at where they are made, a majority of Body by Victoria and other styles are made in Sri Lanka. These bras that sell for around US $40 can be purchased in Sri Lanka for about $5 each. Flawless. In packaging. Needless to say, I never buy my underwear in the US!

I wouldn't as long as they don't start exploiting workers, etc. I think if that happens, the minute many LV buyers find out LV is cheapening the way their products are made is when many people will stop buying.

I'd think LV lower their prices if this story is true. We pay $$$$$ for their bags and I'm SURE the workers get $0.50 an hour.

$.50 an hour? You'd be so lucky. The average wage of a production worker is $50 A MONTH. That comes to around $ 0.15 an hour. (Most workers in export production zones get the same salary regardless of employer - part of the contract)

I wouldnt either. But this news remind of when the forum first found out that a scarce number of LVs were being spotted at costco.

India, France, USA, Spain. People are buying for the quality and craftmanship right? ;)

I would stop buying LV if this turns out to be true. Particularly if prices are still the same. I just cannot buy a bag I know a company is making so much profit on, whilst cheapening the brand. I know LV already make quite a lot, as indicated by their consistent high organic profits. But to move some manufacturing to India...

Quality is the keyword, i have no problem buying LV that's Made in India as long as the quality control is the same as other plants. And like medhavni mentioned, the defects/over productions does not get destroy as they are contract to, there are tons of second quality/defect Gucci on Ebay that should've been destroyed in the first place.

ITA. And also Italy for some shoes and accessories.
IMO, as long as the quality doesn't slowly dwindle, I don't really think it'll change much. And like someone else said, it doesn't specifically mean LV bags so who knows. Time will tell. :smile1:

i don't know how i feel about this...most of the money comes from production cost. whether craftsmanship is there is one issue, but cost of production is definitely going to decrease once it's made in india. then i'd have to reconsider the price i'm paying...

While it says LV, it may not mean LV bags specifically since LV owns Moet champagne, Tag Heuer, Dior Perfume and more...

LVMH group, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton: world leader in luxury, listed on CAC 40 index.

I am doubting they're moving any LV bag making to India.

Louis Vuitton plans first Asia plant in JV with Indian firm HiDesign - report - Forbes.com

But the Forbes article says that they are partnering with a leather goods retailer who manufactures high-end leather goods. I don't think it's anything to do with watches, champagne or perfume then...

^IA... OP's new's article did specially say building a plant in an area of high-end leather goods manufacturing and LV bags not LVMH as a whole company.

We cannot deny that if big industries put their business in asian countries, it will brought slightly benefit to the local workers/labors there, eventhough the salary rate for the local labor is very low.

By this means, i think i will buy LV although it will made in asia and having less quilt on my mind that although i'm still buying a lovely bag that cost fortune, my money not only goes to the rich people in established country but also spread to the asian lower worker that handsticthing my bags, which probably not have enough food to eat. Dont you think it is quit awsome if we could educate every people who says "you spend to much on your handbag you rather feed third world countries" by response, "that is why i spend that much on my bags, it is made in asian countries btw".... The thing is, why i still bought european goods, because it is high quality and has beautiful styles. I dont mind if they build factories in asia, unless they are using the same standard with the european, although i have the thing in "made in france" since i prefer not to buy LV in made in USA or spain.

I have a damier speedy made in france btw, it has slightly defect on the handles.
