Thank you so much LVLoveAffair .. nope, not a lot of peeling, def' don't think it warrants an LV repair trip ( I was lucky to get her for a decent price as I really just needed an "every day" bag - have been using my "fairly new to me & totally beloved now" Boulogne Black Multi-Mono but though I'd rather not wear her every day, I love the style .. it's everything I need in a bag ) - I shall check out the repairs thread (thank you) & I suspect I shall be "around" more often as I find myself being more & more "drawn" to LV (oh dear !!!) xx's Holls

(forgot to say, decided the Boulogne needed a slightly longer strap as I wear bags x-body a lot .. US Ebay seller ValueBeltsPlus custom made me one (9 inches, 5 holes .. it's perfect), £16.00 incl postage to UK, arrived within a week .. just in case anyone else needs something like it xx)

Thank you for the information on the Cross Body Strap
by Value belts…
I have looked at their straps a few times, they look well made….

I just got my first canvas piece, the DE totally. i did a lot of research and just decided to bite the bullet, but now i'm having second thoughts-will this last me 5, 10+ years? there are many stories about issues with the straps, etc and how poor LV customer service can be. I got to thinking i could buy a brand new leather tote bag from a less expensive designer new every year for like 10 years for the same cost at the totally!

the style really works for my needs. but i guess i;m still hung up on 1) its canvas, not even leather, 2) its ubiquitous (i feel like everyone has one, its not so "special" if you know what i mean?), 3) i'm afraid it may not hold up well if i really use it. but then again, its LV and should be good right.....

torn! maybe i just need to stop thinking about it, but sheesh its a lot of money...

and please dont think im an idiot, i do realize im posting on a LV forum lol anyone else have mied feelings about LV?

It should last at least 10 years. Many people buy nice preloved items that are that age and use them for years to come. I wouldn't get too hung up on quality issues, especially if you don't see anything wrong with your purchase. And the fact that it's canvas can be really nice if you're caught in the rain. It should look better, longer.

I also think LV customer service is great, and I've been working with them (repairs and purchases) for the last three years. Right now I am having a 19 year old discontinued bag repaired. I am really happy that something like this is possible. Anyway that's my 2 cents. :smile1:

I don't think LV quality is that good but they have great designs. A lot of lower end bags are better constructed, sturdier, have better organization etc. but they don't have the great design and wow-factor of LV bags. Just like Tiffany's jewellery is overpriced but just nicer design-wise relative to lower-priced jewellery.

When I buy LV, I don't delude myself that I am buying quality - as is the case for a lot of luxury items. Instead I justify it on the basis of design. LV bags just look better than higher quality lower-end bags.

Thank you! I do really like it, the little experience I've had so far with it. I think what has biased me is having read the book Deluxe by Dana Thomas. She talks about how these luxury brands used to have such fine craftsmanship but over the years Quality has gone down and bags are being mass produced and the heads of these companies are just getting richer and richer. Of course one of the main examples in the book was LVMH.

It's kind of a philosophical dilemma i guess... Knowing you are paying more today for something that isn't as good as in the past? Eh, I'll get over it i guess!

There are a lot of people on the forum who complain constantly about the quality. So don't feel bad!!
My experience has been 100% positive. I have owned bags for 15+ years and they look great - some look like they just came out of the box.

Also, two more points.
Yes Louis Vuitton sells a lot of bags. But because something is produced in large quantity does not define it as bad quality.
And a lot of people give advice on the forum and have in fact very limited experience with Louis Vuitton. don't trust everything you read!

Love your advice!!

I initially doubted a lot of my purchases because of reading threads complaining about the quality of certain bags. I did have a quality issue on one bag and LV was amazing with how they fixed it. I am relatively new to LV and am still learning a lot. I do think it's also how you take care of you're things :)

I just bought a preloved DE totally and have a a few DE bag. I have been using my DE Westminster GM for a few months through the winter and no cracking issues. I also use my DE alma and no issues....I love my canvas pieces, they are very durable...all my canvas pieces have held up well, you don't have to baby them but f you take care if them, they will last a long time...

I am glad you received good customer service. That's what makes the difference for me.

 Soooooooo true.

The other point worth mentioning is that your own behavior at LV does affect the level of responsiveness you get, should there be an issue with a product. If you're nice and normal and human, you will be much more likely to have a happy outcome. If you stomp in loaded with resentment, panic, and entitlement, as it often sounds from posts here, well--surprise, this matters to the people on the other side of the counter.

I have heard that older LV items are better in quality than the newer made pieces. I personally have not had any bad experience, but I have not purchased a new handbag since 2007. I don't use it that often but it's still in pristine condition.
I have bought SLGs more recently and have not had any issues.
I also bought a preloved Petit Noe made in 1990 and it's still perfect.
I think it depends. Sometimes you might get unlucky?
That's one of the reasons I am hesitant in buying a new LV handbag.... although I really want to.

I have been buying LV bags for well over 20 years, gosh coming up 25 years now. I have bags that are that age that show very little signs of wear and yes, they are canvas bags and no, I don't particularly baby my bags (my vachetta goes out in the rain, I have kids and a dog). Hope this gives you some hope.

I agree with you.
It feels like people make more of an effort voicing bad experiences on the internet than sharing good or normal service and quality. If something was good then a lot of people take it for granted and have the attitude that it is 'just expected'.
I try to give positive feedback even when service is just good. I think this encourages them to keep doing well.
