I guess tasing/electrocuting animals is ethically fine so I can tote around a $4K bag. /s
We’re here on an LV forum, no one is against calf leather. Heck my heading says “Leather Please”. No need for the snide Stella suggestions. You wanted to know why you were receiving such mixed responses on a fur bag, and I provided some insight on my personal stance that may resonate with others.

Not trying to ruin the fun so DMs are open if anything. Let’s get back to the bags!

On that note, has anyone seen the runway show and the “new” bags?! Any opinions? Loves?

Exactly, that’s my point… people are fine with ending a cow’s life but when it’s a crocodile, mink, snake etc. it becomes a different story - filled with conspiracy and myth. Just trying to understand the inconsistency but I guess the misinformation about skinning animals alive is the biggest factor.

My comment regarding vegan leather was sincere. Stella McCartney has fun bags? I’m sorry you took my suggestion the wrong way. Anyway, let’s get back on topic. I loved the camera trunk and all the python bags from the SS24 runway! Really hope they produce at least some of those beauties

It’s not misinformation. Just because you heard of furriers that perform ethical measures, it doesn’t mean there aren’t others that do things inhumanely. (I was being sarcastic if you didn’t catch it earlier. Imagine being electrocuted/suffocated/etc… just to be a jacket for someone) How many minks do you think died for that one bag? These aren’t large animals…

And it’s not that we are necessarily fine about cowhide being used, but it does provide some sort of inner morale ease, knowing that it can/is used for other things and it wasn’t born on this earth just for me to enjoy a material item. We have to treat our environment better. Every conscious discussion helps; no matter how small. Even if it’s a hard stop on exotics, despite how beautiful they look. LVMH have enough money as is lol

For the SS24, I expected moreee. It didn’t even give me Summer vibes. A good portion of the bags seemed small/impractical. I’ve never looked at a show and had interest in not one bag.
The camera bags, I’ll agree with you on those though. I’m interested to see how they open and how much functionality. Otherwise happy that it looks like I won’t be spending money, but to not even want to window shop this collection.

It is misinformation. The facts are legitimate farmers do not skin animals alive. Period. I’m not arguing that this doesn’t happen else where in the world, it’s just unheard of in legitimate businesses. It’s mostly propaganda spread by PETA and the sorts.

I also caught your sarcasm but thanks lol. I just find it funny that people have no issues turning cows into bags vs other animals.. but I guess if they can have a cheeseburger too, it’s more justified.

I appreciate and respect the opinion of those genuinely against the use of animal skins. But the faux outrage from those who pick and choose when to be bothered is a little tiresome. If it’s truly an issue why line LVMH pockets in the first place? Just baffling. In turn the same people feigning outrage over fur are indirectly $$ supporting it. Bizarre.

I don’t think picking and choosing what to be outraged about is something that anybody in this planet can claim they don’t do. Nothing is ever entirely good or bad that we are free from being accused of “picking outrage”. But if that stopped us from caring (or “getting outraged”), I think we would definitely live in a society where we would be discussing vastly different things than luxury handbags.

It does make a big difference if the cow that made my handbag also became a cheeseburger … and cosmetics and medicine and one of the many other goods and industries that cows provide. And yes, the “luxury leather cow” that became a handbag was also a beef cow, among many other things. A cow only existing to become a luxury leather handbag is a myth. The same can’t really be said for mink.

But my main “beef” with *new* exotics is that while cows no longer exist in the wild, many exotics still do. No one will hunt non-existent wild cows for leather to the same extent that they hunt wild predators (snakes/alligators) for their leather. Unregulated hunting for leather is… quite bad to ecosystems. Sure, LV might have their own exotics farm but those wanting to emulate (or not) LV and such houses likely don’t.

Aesthetically speaking, I LOVE what an exotic handbag looks like. But the only way I can get behind buying myself one is if it’s vintage or preloved.

Not to further stray from this thread’s topic or stir the pot, but … here I go, wheeee!

First let me preface this by saying I’m not judging anyone; I firmly believe we’re all free to make our own decisions!

But if it’s a double standard to be OK with leather goods but not OK with exotic leather goods, then surely by that reasoning it is also a double standard to be OK with the consumption of cows, pigs, and chickens but not OK with the consumption of dogs, cats, and horses? Because I think most cheeseburger-loving people out there would be absolutely horrified to discover if their burgers were made from one of the latter animal types, or their luxury bag, for that matter.

Obviously I understand the history of animal farming and why society is OK with eating some types of animals and not others, but at the end of the day, both groups of people (those OK with “regular” leather but not exotics and those OK with eating some types of animals but not others) are OK with some animals being killed/used but not others. Both groups could be said to be picking and choosing where to assign value to animals’ lives, or where to be indignant, or whatever.

So all that to say … human beings are complicated and multifaceted and we’re all more similar than we may realize?! We all draw lines in different places for ourselves; we all justify and rationalize certain things as OK and others as not. And that’s OK. It’s nice to see healthy, respectful debate that causes us to think and learn and maybe challenge our own beliefs, and it’s nice to see consumers and companies becoming more eco-conscious. I think it won’t be too long before LVMH caves to pressure and also stops using exotics, but we shall have to wait and see!

Now to get back on topic … I’m excited to start seeing people’s Constellation pieces arrive! I haven’t seen any YouTube reviews yet, but hopefully they start coming through soon; I hope someone dives into the construction/application of the studs because I’m curious!

Thank you! And that is so great to hear re: the Constellation collection looking nice in person! I don’t think it’s for me, either, but I do think it’s really unique and I’m so excited to enjoy it vicariously through others’ unboxing photos and videos. Maybe I’ll try to pop into a store to check it out up close and personal, although that would probably be dangerous…:giggle:

Nothing in the show I would like to have. For me it was boring.
