DH said he didn't want to wear a wedding ring and I said that's OK, I won't wear one either.

We have both worn our wedding rings for nearly thirty years...;)

Here is a picture of Johnny at the reception. I feel so much better seeing him.

It just makes one feel better just to look upon him.. (fresh haircut here.)
It WAS WONDERFUL to see him so prominent in the Coronation !! Going down in history.... forever...

I'm betting his experience and services were invaluable to the Palace??? The pageantry was breathtaking!

Men in kilts...

He was there (and did so well) during the sad days of the late Queen’s death and funeral ceremonies; it’s lovely that he got to play a prominent role in the more joyous occasion of the King’s coronation.

And just from the photos of him out and about with the King and Queen for the past few years, I get the feeling that they very much trust and rely on him. He feels like a sort of surrogate younger son to Charles sometimes, since his actual younger son seems so decisively to have pushed the family away. ‍

I caught myself letting out a small sigh of relief when I first realized he was going to play a major role and be right behind his King. He has the most unobtrusive way of taking care of things. During the initial entry and seating of King Charles, for example, the end of the train on the cape needed a slight adjustment and with sleight of hand it was done. No one better could have had the back of those young pages.

I bet it gave Charles comfort and calm that his trusted equerry was the gentleman assisting him with his robe change during the ceremony in full view of everyone.

Wonder what Honor the King will bestow when Johnny’s service ends?

On the internet, if you put in Johnny Thompson - all the headlines are "The hunk in the Kilt is back!

Why is the Daily Mail still referring to him as "Major"? He's been a Lieutenant Colonel for a while now, hasn't he? Although Google links are still referring to him as a Major.

Maybe someone familiar with British Army emblems of rank can take a look at recent photos taken in 2023? The Times referred to him as a Lieutenant Colonel in an article in December 2022.

ETA - Going by the photo in this post:

and this Wikipedia page, assuming it's correct:

they sure look like a Lieutenant Colonel's epaulettes to me.

This morning from Sarah Vine:

SARAH VINE: So many incredible sights. Britain at its most optimistic and spectacular... Oh, and the most ravishingly handsome equerry in the history of handsome equerries!

Honestly, Harry looks so shabby in comparison, like a homeless man who got a chance to wash up at the Y and given faded hand-me-downs to go to church.

Not only does Hairball always look like his clothes have been slept in after a 24-hour-long pub crawl, but his flaunting of medals that have probably been awarded for "Playing The Most Video Games While On Duty", "Best Record of Infuriating Local Civilians By Guiding Jets to Fly At High Speeds And Extremely Low Altitudes Right Over Their Rooftops In No-Fly Zones", "Best Plans For Destroying The Now-King's Vehicle Before 'Ultimately Sparing Him At The Last Minute' " and most importantly, "Most Effective Merching Of Yourself At Your Father's Coronation While Smirking All The Way To The Bank" must make Colonel Johnny insanely jealous for only having earned medals for actual competent military service.

NOT.

BTW, for the purpose of transparency, Hairball's ACTUAL medals are listed here, usually for simply being someplace at a certain time or just being a member of the BRF - bet her Late Majesty wishes that she could revoke a few of them:

Another confirmation, although unofficial, of Colonel Thompson's proper rank:

"..The current equerry for King Charles III is Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan “Jonny” Thompson of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland. Lt. Col. Thompson is originally from Morpeth, Northumberland, and attended Aberystwyth University before beginning his career in the British Army. He has been with King Charles since 2020 as an equerry before Charles’s ascension to the throne. Lt. Col. Thompson has drawn a lot of attention for being rather handsome, which has led social media users on TikTok to dub him “Major Eye Candy...”

"... Today, the role of the equerry is very much the same, though some of the details have changed. Equerries come from all branches of the Armed Services, from the British Army to the Royal Air Force, and serve for a period of three years rather than three months."
(Dated January 23, 2023)

ETA - Sorry for repeating some of Rose100's points from another thread!

And from the same website, as a very special bonus for everyone who believes that insults sound better when spoken with a British accent, preferably like my ne'er-do-well brother-in-law Onslow's ;) (NOT for those who are easily offended!)
