Thank you, yes, a very good time. I love all the pipe bands and music, the traditional Heavy events, and the dancing. It was the biggest crowd I have ever seen which was pleasing. Getting out of the car park at the end though was a challenge. A two hour queue! Never mind, at least is was the last of the Gatherings for this year.

I wonder how long the tradition will continue once Charles and Anne are no longer around. Sadly it seems the next generation of the Royals have no interest.
I hope you’re not right. The King has always felt at home in Scotland and I think the Queen Mother had a lot to do with him enjoying their summers at Balmoral. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip loved Balmoral but whether that has rubbed off on William we will have to see. I am surprised His Majesty has not spent more time in Scotland this summer but he has a State Visit to France on 22nd - 25th September so will need to be back in London before then. Thank you for all the information you have given you certainly live in a beautiful part of the country

I wonder if this tie means something as I have seen multiple people in the same (similar) tie/shirt/tweed combo?
This is, I think, the regimental tie of the Queen’s Own Hussars. However it is subtly different to the tie Jonny is wearing, and often wears with his tweed suit. That has slightly wider stripes, and matches the check colours.

Thanks. I’ve always wondered why he doesn’t wear a kilt, that isn’t his uniform, with a jacket and waistcoat as His Majesty does. He wears a kilt so well.
Definitely, they were literally in a kilt shop this summer! The King wears it so well! Even if he doesn't have his own tartan (he can have mine), he could go for one of the universal ones like the Isle of Skye or why does't the royal household just get their own tartan for situations like this.

He has the build for a kilt. Great legs and broad shoulders.

Just watched this video from August 2019 for the first time. Balaklava Company, with Jonny as Commanding Officer, marching back from Balmoral to their Barracks in Ballater after a day of Royal Guard duty. Jonny really has quite the loud voice shouting Commands to look left at the War Memorial, and then telling the Company they can Fall Out. This is the day to day life of being in the Army, in the 5th Scots.

Some screenshots of Jonny....well, because..

Marching with his men

Being filmed, possibly by Forces Network?

Is Jonny signing an autograph here? How sweet.

There is a website called "The Regimental Shop" and it shows all of the British Army's regimental ties. A scroll through the ties will let you know which tie goes with each unit. The Royal Regiment of Scotland tie and matching socks and watchband that Jonny wears at times are shown on this site. There are many categories of British Army dress shown, ranging from headdress badges to watchbands. Here is the link: https://www.regimentalshop.com/collections/ties

From the Telegraph re the King and Queen's upcoming State Visit to France.

There will be a glamorous black-tie state banquet at the Palace of Versailles, a remembrance ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe, a procession down the Champs-Élysées and a bilateral meeting with president Macron at the Elysée Palace.

We will see Jonny in his red jacket Officer's Mess Dress and Bow Tie again! YAY! :yahoo:

Now that is something to look forward to as he was so handsome in Germany. Sightings been sparse since Lonach where we were very spoilt. His Majesty has 2 visits next week 13th and 15th in Scotland so we may be lucky or KC may take James if Jonny is busy with French visit arrangements. Fingers crossed.
