Although he has strong ties to the area, he isn't Scottish and doesn't have his own Clan tartan. Plus he wears a kilt so often it is probably nice to be in trousers for a change!
Thank you I didn’t realise that.
View attachment 5851499Not many clear sightings of Jonny today, though I couldn't watch all of it. A couple of screenshots of the Royal Box.

View attachment 5851497Thank you. Not many sightings if J. I thought it would be like last week at the Lonach Gathering when His Majesty walked about meeting people. Perhaps this Gathering is too large for security purposes. But good to see him

The Lonach Gathering was almost a private visit, made by the King as a favour to Jonny in view of their friendship. Hence it being very relaxed and the King spending so much time there, interacting, meeting a lot of Jonny’s pals, and some of his family.

By contrast Braemar has always been an ‘official’ event in the monarch’s calendar.

You did great! Who can mistake his broad grin, and look of enjoyment on his face?!

Thank you for sharing, and hope you had a good time!
Thank you, yes, a very good time. I love all the pipe bands and music, the traditional Heavy events, and the dancing. It was the biggest crowd I have ever seen which was pleasing. Getting out of the car park at the end though was a challenge. A two hour queue! Never mind, at least is was the last of the Gatherings for this year.

I wonder how long the tradition will continue once Charles and Anne are no longer around. Sadly it seems the next generation of the Royals have no interest.

Yesterday the Announcer said that Prince Charles had first gone to the Braemar Gathering aged 6, and Princess Anne was 5.
In the Mail Online yesterday I also saw a photo of Prince William from 2005 sitting beside HMQ at the Braemar Games wearing a blue suit, and frankly looking out of place with every other man in the Royal Box in a kilt, including Prince Philip. Its very sad.

A couple of weeks ago the King invited Joy Dunlop to sing at the Sunday Church Service he attended with Camilla. She was the lovely Gaelic singer with a beautiful voice who sang unaccompanied at the Service of Thanksgiving in Edinburgh in July.
