:biggrin::biggrin: Your imagination certainly is running away! My apologies, I didn't mean to provoke discussion about his parents, just to share why Jonny seemed particularly happy and proud.

This forum has usually seemed, for the most part, considerate, respectful, well mannered, and... quite clever in putting 2+2 together and correctly getting 5!! So, I felt it was not betraying Jonny's privacy too much to mention his Dad was there. Particularly as I have noticed things discussed here that are not related to Jonny's public duties haven't spread to the mainstream where the vultures are quite voracious in trying to access information that should be private. And again, as I said, this is generally a place that while curious, understands boundaries.

You can speculate all you like, but I can assure you there were a number of 'Thompsons' there that day so I wouldn't put too much store in anything you heard, and his siblings don't live locally. Also the tall lady in the Wallace tartan skirt is definitely not his Mum. But full marks for your attempted sleuthing .

His Mum was there but I sincerely doubt anyone who doesn't know Jonny, or his Mum and Dad, would have any clue who, or where, they were.

As for Jonny's wee man not being there, don't forget school kids in England are no longer on holiday. And Jonny is not having a holiday. It may be time off from a lot of public duties but he still has to work very hard in the background planning to ensure everything runs like a well oiled machine. Still, I agree it is sad that circumstances have meant he has missed a lot of Jonny's doings during his tenure as Equerry. Thankfully Jonny's Mum and Dad will make sure he learns all about it and, as so much has been recorded and part of public record, hopefully as he gets a bit older he will be able to take it all in, understand why his Dad wasn't around quite a bit, and be allowed to have more involvement.
I think his little boy will be very proud of his father when he is older. My mother was a nurse and as I child I could never understand why she wasn't there at Christmas and other important holidays but I understood as I got older.

Thank you so much for your very kind and insightful post. All your posts this past weekend have been much appreciated and added to our knowledge and appreciation of such a wonderful event. ❤ I only discovered this forum myself recently. Mind you, I didn't realise some schools had already started the new term! In London we never returned till first week of September.

I imagine there will be some here who will, for one reason or another ;), be interested in the Braemar Highland Games this Saturday.

For those of you not lucky enough to be able to be here, the day will be live streamed on YouTube from 11:30am.

The link is live now so you can set a reminder.

Will definitely be watching! I have really enjoyed your posts over the last few days. I didn't realise that Jonny has been in Scotland for so long, I just assumed that he moved to Scotland when he joined the army. It's nice to know that he is really involved in Scottish Culture. I think the King has found a kindred spirit in that sense.
I wonder what his little boy will think when he learns all this at school when it's literally his dad who is in the history books. I guess Royal children grow up knowing this but it sounds like Jonny went from a normal life to a very extraordinary life very quickly.

You are giving us so much interesting information! Please tell us more!!!
Upon listening to Jonny's voice during military interviews, my ear hears an accent, a silken lilt, that sounds like a lovely mix of England and Scotland that might be interpreted as well-educated upper class/aristocratic. There is a 5 Scots photo on one of their social media platforms, of Jonny and the jocks after playing a Rugby game. All present were covered in dirt and broadly smiling. We would love to see pictures of Jonny playing Rugby but sadly none have surfaced on social media.
I did not know "companion" was the significance of attending an event with the King without the Queen present. What a thoughtful gesture for Jonny on the part of the King! And we are seeing the two of them out and about more often. My interpretation of this is that they may, after being King & Equerry, have become close friends with common interests who enjoy one another's company. One can only imagine the spirited discussions, even debates, those two might get up to!
I agree with your comment about wearing kilts as my father wore his at every opportunity and I secretly think part of the reason was because the ladies always drifted in his direction when he wore it and he enjoyed the attention! According to American friends, the Royal Family is much loved and respected, especially the King, and everyone loves Jonny.
The Scottish actress Rose Leslie (married to Kit Harrington) is the daughter of the clan chief of the Leslie clan and grew up in a castle in Aberdeenshire, but if you hear her speaking she doesn’t have a “Scottish” accent. It depends on your social class and where you were educated (which also depends on your social class.)

Indeed. The broadcaster / writer Tessa Dunlop is from an eminent Scottish family, went to private boarding school Strathallen's in Perth, and speaks with a posh English accent. Because she's often pro Harry & Meghan alot of folk describe her as "part of the Metropolitan elite" and I reply, no, she's Scottish!

YouTube has added a new Lonach Gathering video. It's just under two minutes and it's simply precious. The King is using a starter pistol to begin a foot race but the pistol is not working. After several attempts and much jolly assistance, the race is at last underway. Jonny is in the midst of it all. Simply too cute for words.

Thank you. They all seem to be having a good time. His Majesty was laughing even when the starting gun wouldn’t fire. So much for his short temper. It reminds me of a day out with the boys. Jonny was his usual beautiful self
