Louis Vuitton Neverfull totally trashy and out?

I can see how you feel it being basic, but there is a reason so many people own it and you see it all the time. It is a fantastic/classic bag. It is certainly not for everyone though, maybe you bought into the hype/trend rather then choosing a bag that fits/suits you? Since you cannot return it, I would let it sit in your closet a little and give it time. If it bothers you that you will be seeing similar bags, then sell it. If not maybe you think about it a little and decide it's for you.
Good luck deciding!

Well you say basic - I say classic :) and the classics are timeless. No one is going to look at the neverfull & say it’s out of style. It may be more commonly carried than some other styles but that’s because of its usefulness & lower price point than many other LV bags. I love LV. I don’t own a neverfull but I do own many pieces & I think they’re timeless. The Noe... speedy... still in style.

I don’t think LV is tacky. I don’t think that their monogram is flashy either - I use it as a neutral & that’s how I see it.

If you love the bag, keep it! If you don’t love it, sell it. It’s really not that difficult... life’s too short to worry about or make “bag” decisions based on the opinions of others. First world problems... Either enjoy the bag or sell it to someone who will.

Thanks! I'm looking at it right now and I still think it's very pretty. I was actually NOT into the hype or trend of it, ever, but was dazzled in the store and how well constructed it was. AND the colors. So i bought it. And then I remembered how I never bought into the trend. But, why should I care? I actually think the bag suits all types. I am just always self conscious about the LV-ness of it or something... but I'll get over it.

I get that! I never got the monogram pieces and thought it was weird to have all over the bag, then I saw them in person and was like okay I get it I suppose. Personally I dislike monogram too (too LV for me), but I love damier ebene with the red interior. Something about it just calls to me. Enjoy your beautiful bag!

I think it's normal to question when buying a trendy bag if you're buying it because you like or because it's popular, but often items are popular because they're likable.

As far as conspicuous consumption, everyone has different lines on what that means and how much they care about it. Will there be people who judge? Yes. Will there be people who judge someone for carrying a non-leather bag from Target? Yes. No apparel/accessories will be without judgement, so it's just a matter of what works for you and what you feel comfortable wearing.

I'm also not a huge fan of LV. I was at the hospital waiting room maybe two months ago and saw no less than 6 NF bags in 30 minutes. I ended up selling my NF right after that. tbh. I didn't like it enough and I didn't like the feeling of having something everyone seems to have. It sounds like your thoughts have turned negative and if you don't like the bag you won't enjoy wearing it. I would sell it, or consign it. I sold all of my mono pieces off and just kept the damier prints. Perhaps if you'd purchased it in azur or damier it would feel different? Mono does have that way of attracting too many eyes to it and can make some people feel uncomfortable and conspicuous.

I did purchase it in Damier and even then I had some of your feelings based on the ubiquity of THAT one too. But I always liked that Damier print (and I love the pink interior) and I can take only the classic mono LV print if on a vintage item. Damier is more understated but ... I think you know what I mean. As an object I think it's lovely, but wearing it ... I dunno! I like color or pattern or a certain style to draw the eye, not obvious brand or logo, but maybe Damier is fine (and I like it, dammit!). Guess that's my issue. Again, though, I may keep it ... I might just be in some strange headspace.

I've given a lot of thought to the OP's concerns over the past couple of years...mostly because I found myself loving the quality of Vuitton canvas and vachetta leather but not being a fan of monogrammed patterns on ANY brand - it seemed like blatant conspicuous consumption in the tackiest of ways. Vuitton seemed particularly bad with this (like the Starbucks of luxury brands in terms of ubiquity!), but ultimately, I did wind up buying a NF GM (in monogram, no less!), as well as 4 other DA/DE/monogrammed bags after that - all with zero regrets. Here's why:

- Yes, many people buy Vuitton to be flashy and "show off", but many people (such as us TPF nerds ) buy it because we appreciate the history of the brand, and the quality of the materials and craftsmanship. Why should I deprive myself of this just because I'm worried about what someone else thinks?
- Though I'm still not a fan of monogram print, I love vachetta leather that patinas over time (and I'm not so crazy about the DA print for my workhorse bag), so mono was my only option
- Like someone mentioned earlier, mono is actually quite a neutral pattern so it seems actually quite subtle now (especially since metallic and/or embellished bags are so in right now!)
- Damier is my fave (if only those handles weren't glossed, I would have bought my NF in DE!) - way more classy and subtle, no "LV! LV! LV! LV!" in your face
- I've come to realize that the "flashiness" that strikes me as tacky isn't about the product itself so much as how it's worn/displayed. The people who make a big show about using their luxury goods when they're out and about, take photos showing off all their wares (TPF not included; I mean on Facebook, etc. etc. as if they're a Kardashian!), make you walk around it with 4 feet of room around it, treat it like it's a newborn child in public...I mean, you do you if that's your thing, but that's not for me. Most NF users use it as their workhorse bag - it's been everything from my day bag to my beach bag to my 3-nights-in-Vegas carry-on bag! I wear it with minimal "preciousness", can put it on the ground or under my seat on an airplane without worrying about scratches or dirt since it's so easy to clean. Hardly "flashy", just a strong belief in its hardiness and durability (and so far, so good!).

So enjoy your bag, especially since Damier is so much more subtle than Mono. Who cares if everyone has it. It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it.

I agree that the NF is a popular bag that you see a lot, this could make it commonplace or 'basic' depending on yr point of view.
I have one in mono GM and it does draw a little attention but I think that's more people recognising it or admiring it. Probably how you carry it makes a difference. I am very casual (jeans always) and that tones down the "status" of the bag a lot I think.
Try just throwing some stuff in your NF and carrying it around for a day. After a while it will just start to feel like a bag, although a very pretty one I think!
(also, get a bag liner if you are still thinking of selling it down the road, it will keep the interior nice and clean).

I remember the first time I saw an LV monogram Speedy.. A lady sitting next to me at an outdoor café in Paris was wearing one.
I just couldn't take my eyes off it. Didn't know what brand it was and had to ask her where she had bought it.
Two or three days later, I went to the boutique. It was awfully expensive but I just had to get it.
I carried it everywhere and never cared what people thought. I still don't.
Years and years later, I am still in love with the brand.
The Neverfull is a classic bag and lots of ladies would envy you.
It's an expensive tote, depending where you live you don't see that many.
Enjoy your bag, consider yourself lucky to have a very good quality tote which you will carry for years.:love:

I have mixed feelings about the neverfull. My parents bought me the bag in PM size 8 years ago and it was my first designer bag ever. Since then the bag's price has raised so much so I guess it is a good investment bag. I still use the neverfull to this day.
I had thought of buying the same bag maybe in different prints and in different size. But I held off because neverfull is an everyday bag, it's a tote bag and it suppose to hold all of your stuff. My everyday style now is more simple, so I chose Saint Laurent shopping tote. And I wear it so much.

Hi! I am new to the forum and have a weird dilemma (is it weird? maybe not.) Anyway, I have the LV MM Neverfull in Damier Ebene with the pink interior. I think it's a pretty bag, but I actually don't like LV much, I never did -- I find LV too flashy, and that particular style, while basic and nice, is SO EVERYWHERE that I feel like I don't want to wear it. I was seduced by the pink interior, the store, the boxes! It was like I was in an LV trance or something! I don't know what came over me. I just thought it seemed so sensible and pretty (and it is!) BUT My question is:

1. Do you agree with me? That it's tacky and kind of (sorry) basic *****?

I can't return it because I used it once (I've had it less than two weeks), and I bought it out of the country at the LV store in Barcelona, so I have that sinking feeling...

Thoughts?

My first Louis Vuitton was a Neverfull GM in monogram in the dark pink interior and I love it to this day, I use it as an everyday bag and it fits all my stuff in it, I never have to compromise on what can fit and what can do. The name “Neverfull” is perfect for this specific bag because the bag really is Never full haha [emoji23]
I wouldn’t buy another Neverfull because I think one is enough for me and I would rather purchase another LV bag different model.
If you’re not happy with the purchase then maybe sell it on the pre-loved market? Because the bag is basically brand new, you could get a lot of money when you sell it and then use the money to buy another bag either from LV or another brand.
I think the LV Neverfull is a classic no matter what print you buy it in, it’s versatile and it’s practical at the same time for a designer bag. Hopefully you’ll become a LV addict like the rest of us or not. I know Gucci is very popular right now and Prada and Celine has very nice everyday functional bags [emoji4]
