Canmore, you're my angel!!! Haha thanks sooooo much!!

I'm thinking our max is .7 since the max budget is right at 12,000. Now he's said he's flexible and a couple hundred more is fine with him if it's the difference between my dream ring and compromising. I did get a list of options from woman from tiffany, here are the specs:

.70, H, VVS2, $10,900
.63, F, VVS1, $11,000
.72, G, VVS1, $11,500
.77, I, IF, $11,600
.80, H, VS1, $11,800
.75, H, IF, $12,500
.75, F, VVS2, 12,500
.77, F, VS1, $12,700

I guess my first main question was the difference in color, cut, sparkle, etc. did you notice a big difference between them? I do now want to go in and look as much as possible. My car isn't very reliable and I was going to go to the Santa Monica location which is the closest to me. Luckily I could have them bring some over from other stores.

Congrats on your engagement and no more long distance!!! He did very well!!! Were you nervous letting him pick the exact specs?

God that .7 pic is amazing!!! Sure id like a bigger rock haha but I think that would look just right on my long skinny fingers. So glad I wouldn't have to settle for a small one, since I agree with you and the .3-.5 seem a tad... Less blingy :P I told him I want this to blind people and he cracked up laughing

Honestly, even though I can generally see color in other people's rings, the Tiffany lighting really obscured any differences. Regardless, I'm quite happy with my G stone and when we compared a 0.63 D to a 1.01 G it didn't make as big an impact as the size difference. I've bolded the ones I would want to compare side by side in the store. There's a $2000 difference between the four I've bolded. The 0.80 H VS1 could have a very large presence if you're okay with the color (to me, the H and I color options at the Philly store were absolutely beautiful and didn't seem at all warm) and is $1000 less than a slightly smaller F stone. I think that comparison would really tell you if the color would be an issue.

Good luck! I don't think you can wrong with any of those options! :)

Awesome! I felt a bit overwhelmed by all of them and wasn't sure what to ask to compare. That makes sense. And then I could always tell him (so it can stay a surprise) if I'm ok with H, for example, or if it would need to be higher on the color grade. Thanks!

That's kind of what my FI and I did. The SA asked me what my minimum color and size requirements were. When the SA realized I didn't really have a strong opinion, he suggested I let my FI make the decision since whatever he chose would be fine by me. After all, the ring is for/about both of us! Figure out your minimum requirements and then let your boyfriend do the rest. Enjoy!

Canmore!!! What a gorgeous ring! Congratulations!!! Extremely helpful pictures, too! I think she will be fine with a center diamond in the .75-.80 range.

I would definitely choose the .80 H VS1 out of those if all the stones were equally beautiful. And in fact, if I were telling someone parameters to buy me that ring, I would specify G-H color and VS1-VS2 for clarity. I'd want the greater size that G-H would give me over D-F, and VS stones are generally clean and it is paying for something you cannot see to go with VVS or IF.

Just a question, though (for bsb). Since you said you like vintage, these really aren't really very vintage. The Legacy ring is vintage. Have you looked at those at all?

Oh yeah I've seen the legacy, and it's pretty, but not for me. I appreciate what you're saying, I just meant the more general idea that cushions are a bit more of a classic cut. Thanks :)

Awesome Canmore! Looks like I'll be doing the same. Which is why I want to see these soon, so I can tell him if I'm ok with G or H or if my eyes can see too much color. Pretty sure I won't be one of those that's ok with "warmth" I want it to be icy as possible and sparkle like mad. So at this point my only concerns are cut grade and color.

DS, would you be worried that G or H is too low? I honestly don't care about clarity at this point at all since I know I couldn't see a difference.

Don't tell him anything until you've seen them in person. G or H isn't "too low", unless you are color sensitive, and until you see these in person you need to not overthink what you're going to see or not see. Wait until you see them in person. There WILL be variance from center stone to center stone, both in cut style and cut quality AND in color appearance even within the same color grade, partly because of the cut quality and how the facet interplay is.

There isn't any sort of "ideal" cut grade or cut quality guideline for cushions. There are so many shapes, variants and styles within that particular diamond shape that it's impossible to set a true ideal. You're looking for what pleases YOUR eye the most. What I like and what you like could be wildly different.

GORGEOUS, and congratulations!!!!

Thank you for posting these images, as I believe they're very helpful not only to the OP, but to everyone that comes across them to give a guide for sizing. You can see there's at least one that is squarer as well.

If you don't mind my asking, for reference purposes related to the ratio of stone to finger size, what is your ring size?

Hi - look at the stone from the side and next to a white sheet of paper to see if you can see warmth

My ring size is right between a 5.5 and a 5.75 but that's really what I'm limited to by my knuckle. I'm wearing my ring right now after it was resized to "the smaller side of 5 and 3/4" and there's still a bit of movement so I may look into getting the shot beads. I'll probably wait until summer rolls around to make a decision as my fingers change size a lot over the course of the day.

I went back and forth in my mind about the Soleste vs a solitaire (or a solitaire with a pave band). I know what I have is trendy and less classic than a solitaire but it's just what makes me smile!! It's not even a very practical setting (although it does sit lower than a ton of other styles) but I don't care!!! Honestly I would have been just as happy with a much smaller center stone as it's really the setting that I like so much.

Also if anyone wants pictures from different angles, let me know. 😊

I won't ame :) gonna wait and see before I tell him details.

Canmore, the more pics the better! Seriously you can spam this thread with as many as you want and I'd be thrilled haha! :)

That's good to hear, I'm glad the question of ring size came up. I think I'm a 6, but I know I'm at least under a size 7 so our fingers are similar enough where the pics help me see what will look right on me, size wise.

Thanks for the idea of white sheet of paper!! That's genius, never would have thought of it!
