Looking for advice on selling jewelry.....

I am glad that I found this thread! I am thinking of selling my xxxx diamond necklace on eBay. I paid it around $950 last year, and I will be very happy if I can get around 75% of what I paid for ($700)... but I have never sold a jewelry on eBay, so I have no idea what to expect in terms of its starting price. It comes with a AGS certified diamond (0.33 carat, IS, J, Ideal cut). xxxxxxx

These photos look great! I think they would be ideal for an eBay style auction listing. Adding a photo of the certificate for the diamond would be helpful, too. Detailed, factual information in the eBay listing is best. You want the listing to be as accurate as possible, to avoid chargebacks or returns.

Also, when I list branded items like this on eBay, I look for around 75% of the starting price, too. You can always lower the price the next time you re-list if it doesn't sell. Just remember that free shipping attracts buyers. You'll also want to ship via an insured method that requires a signature upon delivery (anything over $250 must be signed for to be eligible for eBay/PayPal seller protection).

It really is a beautiful necklace!

Thanks!! Do you have any suggestion about the photo I will use as a main photo? (The one that appears in the search result section?) I am thinking of the shot that the store sent me or the close up shot of the sparkly stone... But I cannot decide which one is more appealing!

Personally, I would use either the first or fourth photo as the main auction photo, but you may be required to crop out the Gavin hallmark at the bottom of the first photo, as I don't think that you're allowed to use copyrighted materials in your eBay listing. Many, many people do... which is why I would suggest removing the hallmark if you're going to... but be aware that Gavin might request the listing be removed due to the use of their photos.

I just want to say that it's beautiful and if you would have been selling it before Christmas I would have probably bought it! I agree with PM with either the first or fourth photo as the main. I like the first one the best out of the two though. Good luck with selling it!

I have a lot of gold jewelery I will never wear again. I'd like to sell it, but I don't know where to go and who to trust?

I also have two sets of diamond stud earrings, each 2 carats that I'd like to trade in for 3 carats.

Any jewelers here on tPF who can direct me? :smile1:

Hello, doll...hope all is well with you.
I would definately turn in your studs for a bigger size. If you have a regular jeweler, one you trust, ask him/her if they buy jewelry or know of another jeweler who does.
That would be where I'd start..................

I agree with the previous poster.

I've sold a fair amount of my old jewelry that I just didn't wear anymore. I just took everything to my local jeweler where we normally do business.

Also have upgraded some diamonds through the same place.

Do you have a local jeweler you normally do business with who buys gold?

Good luck!

Gold is very high right now, so great for selling. I second going to a reputive jeweler to sell this back. You can have your transaction done in 30 minutes or so (depending how busy they are) and they should pay in cash. Even better!

The only jeweler here in Northern VA that I've done business with is Cartier. I brought two watches in to have the leather bands changed, along with the crystal, and batteries. Would you suggest me going there to sell my jewelery? Some of the pieces are gold with diamonds. All gifts from previous beaus. :amuse::p;)

ETA: Skyqueen, I'm doing great. Hope you and your beautiful son are too.

Is it typically better to go to a jeweler rather than to a place that promises to pay "top dollar" like gold and silver buyers?
I have no experience in this area.

I would get prices from both places. Our local NBC TV station did several "tests" here with local jewelers, as well as a few local places that specialize in buying precious metals and a few places that set up in hotels. There was one place that beat out all the others every time. It was a precious metals dealer who's been in town forever. The jewelers all gave the lowest offers. This was when gold was very high.

You could also try to sell it yourself on a site like loupe troop or Diamond Bistro.
If the jewelry has any design value, you may want to try your luck rather than sell for scrap....wich would net you less.

Hi. So as some of you may know. My marriage dissolved 2+ years ago and I'm considering selling the rings.

Has anyone does this? If so how did you go about doing it? It was purchased 10yrs ago for roughly $8k (wholesale) and appraised at $16k.

I've approached two different pawn shops (brick/mortar & online). Former offered $4200 and the latter $4500.

I just did a search and if I were to buy these same rings online now say via wholesale - I'm looking at $11k with a $22k appraisal value.

Advice anyone?
