Longines or Rolex?

I was quoted about 6400-6500 for the Rolex (Canadian funds), but the one I want has Roman Numeral markers. I'm sure the diamond one in the pic is more.

Depending on the bezel/bracelet/face you want...Rolex just went through a bit of a change/upgrade. I just got the euro/midsize (it's one size larger than the womens but not nearly as large as a mens) with the smooth bezel, jubilee bracelet, and roman numerals, it is now $4,800 USD. They just totally re-modeled the case and the band is now a solid link... etc. You can probably still locate a brand new "older" model which should be around $3,800 USD or so. If you add the white gold fluted bezel (which in my opinion is the one every watchmaker copies) you're looking at maybe $700 to $1,000 more but I'm not completely sure on that.....

Both of your options are beautiful watches, I like Rolex because they hold their value, are wonderful timepieces, and like LV, Chanel, Hermes, they don't change much, people use them for 20, 30, 40 years and they still look and work great. Even though I just said they went through changes, all they really did was make the watch stronger and more solid, not so much a change to style or look. It is also nice to have a little fem. watch with some diamonds, I have a little Tag with diamonds that I also love and will continue to use. Maybe start off with the Longines and in a few years go with a Rolex, it's nice to be able to switch off....

Keep in mind with the Rolex, if you change the bezel or dial you will more than likely void the warranty. When you send it to Rolex to have it's "checkup" they will request that you correct the watch to its original state (which will cost you more money). I wouldn't recommend anyone to change a Rolex from its original features, especially if you are buying new.

I am having the same dilema that you are. I had my mind set on a Rolex. Then I decided I would prefer something with a bit more "bling" to it. Not anything excessive, but just a little more "oomph" than the Rolex had to offer. Plus, the price on the other is significantly cheaper.

If you like the Longines, go for it. There's no rule that says you can't have both watches. In my opinion they look quite different. Either way you can't lose, both of those brands are known for their quality! :)

I think you really need to go with which one YOU like better. Obviously they're both beautiful, classic, and timeless.

But since you're asking for opinions, I have never been a fan of Rolex. I can respect the quality, and I admire the fact that they're a lux brand, etc. However, I have never really liked the way they look. That's just my personal opinion.

I agree with Prada Psycho - unless you look closely at them, they look like a Timex, and the female versions really are just smaller versions of the male watches, which I am not a fan of either.

... just my opinion. Cheers to all who have a Rolex and love them...! Rock on!

sparklyprincess...I like the Rolex in the picture, too. But she said she is contemplating the Rolex with the Roman numeral dials (not the diamonds as in the picture). There's no bling on that one. :(

Oh okay. If you prefer bling, then go with the Longines. For the Rolex you may be able to upgrade to a diamond dial later on, I'm not sure. But you definitely cannot upgrade to a diamond bezel. I inquired about buying a diamond bezel for my watch, but Rolex only makes them for the all-gold (Presidential?) watches. My watch is stainless steel and white gold so they can't do it. You could always add aftermarket parts, but that would void the warranty like someone else mentioned. Also, it just wouldn't be the same. Another blingy watch that costs less than the Rolex is Omega. I have a ladies constellation with diamonds on it similar to the Longines in your pic.

The rolex is not the ultimate watch, certainly keeps its value tru time but the longines is history for itself. i have a rolex submariner and a longines conquest and despite the diferences in price I like the longines more, not many people has a longines as the thounsands of crowds that have rolex. When U use the longines U say to people I know about watches without any word. With the rolex you will transmit desire of money and fashion.

Wow, this is a super old thread!! Definitely the Rolex. It's almost the same as mine except I have a mop dial. If you have the upgrades down through Rolex it wont void the warrenty. Rolex allows you to change the dial or add diamonds.
