Loewe and Celine - made in China!!!!

The irony of all this is, handbag sales have escalated more significantly than ever, so apparently the manufacturers have accomplished their goal!

Maybe Chanel and Hermes are still getting away with it? I don't know?

But I think most brands are selling the vast majority of their bags on deep discount, aren't they?

Or, rather, what they would have you believe is deep discount (and which is, probably, still more than they were charging, just a few short years ago [i.e. during the bubble!] at full retail!)...

:wtf::tdown:

Apparently , only 3 french brands surely continue to have their handbags made in France : Chanel , Hermès and Louis Vuitton . Dior presented recently a demonstration avenue Montaigne on how making a lady dior with a french craftsman .

Well, to answer the question regarding Hermes, Hermes does everything in France and yes, they do source their materials worldwide. For example, some of their crocodile skins are sourced from crocodile farms which are located in Singapore.

I would suggest reading Deluxe: How Luxury Lost It's Luster. It raises an interesting issue of why is it such a taboo for things to be made in China as opposed to countries like France or Italy. I personally feel like the issue is mostly people viewing Italian made goods as a generations old craftsmanship and Chinese made goods more for profit. It raises very interesting points and I highly recommend it.

^ great book. It is a good read for anyone interested in luxury goods. It also raises the interesting question of what a "made in Italy" tag really means, i.e. How much of the bag needs to be constructed there to qualify.

what do you mean? even the tagged "made in italy" stuff are made in italy by chinese immigrants, because they are smart and hard-working folks. my italian friends told me many italians prefer merchandise made by local chinese immigrants, which have the same quality and better price. if chanel has its bags made in china, at least the stitches would have been sewed properly.

I don't understand why people get upset about bags being made in China. Does that not depend on quality control? If a bag is truly made in France or Italy, do you think if we can really afford it?

My fave brand used to have its bags made in Italy and now it seems to me that most of them are made in China. I don't see much quality change. The price has certainly gone up!!!!

:goodpost:

Made in Italy alone does not qualify for great craftmanship. Same the other way around for made in China.

Haaaaaa???:wtf: I just bought a bi-color Cabas! (...off to check the tag)

:sweatdrop:Whew!!!! What a relief! My Cabas is Made in Italy. I have nothing against Made in China, since most of everything are all made from there, but I just prefer the Made in France or Italy on my bags. I refuse to spend this much money on Made in China bags, SORRY!
