I just don’t see any issues with the use of these drugs for weight loss, other than creating shortages for those who need the medications for more serious health conditions. I don’t think anyone owes any explanation as to how they lose weight. Do we get up in arms about Botox, fillers, plastic surgery, Invisalign, or any other procedure or treatment that we use to change or improve our health or appearance? Why do we treat these drugs and the use of them differently? Could it be that the stigma of excess weight is still shameful?
The shortages concern is really not terribly accurate either since tons of people using it for weight loss are using the compounded versions because they're significantly cheaper and easier to get in the US.

I think it's because being thin has always been treated as something you should deserve or have to put effort towards. I'd love nothing more than to see these drugs help combat the obesity problem that is plaguing the country.

Or people judging that it’s the easy way out.

Jillian Michaels and other fitness gurus have been extremely vocal about being anti-weight loss drug.

Sometimes I think it is an easy way out. For some it is. For others it is necessary since diet and exercise only does so much to help them. Everyone’s need is unique.

At the end of the day if it allows someone to have a healthier life and be happy we shouldn’t really care.

I just heard on the news that the US government is planning on covering weightloss drugs for everyone. It makes sense from a medical standpoint as I am sure that it would be a big relief from obesity related illnesses.

My dad has had his dose cut back to 1/4 because of shortages

My coworkers dad who's diabetic is also having a hard time getting it. Now they're fighting with insurance claiming he needs a preauth for a drug he's taken for 4 years. My guess is because so many are using it for weight loss they've changed the requirements for it. He's already 2 weeks without because of this.

It appears to me that a lot of lazy people are using the drugs as a short cut when really they should be taking responsibility for themselves by watching what they eat and doing some exercise. Yes, it's hard graft but it's natural instead of ingesting a drug which has some rather unpleasant side effects and unknown long-term issues for using it for losing weight (probably only temporary loss) instead of it's main/original purpose.

I do hope that the people (i.e. those who can/should diet and exercise instead) who are taking the easy way, with drugs, pay for their own medical bills if/when something goes wrong with them.

Losing weight is often a situation which can last years/forever being mindful of what one eats and drinks. The body is very clever, much cleverer than us, and evolution ensures that it will do everything it needs to survive which is why as soon as one stops the regime they are on, the weight goes back on. The body is fighting for it's survival because it doesn't know when it will be in a famine situation again.

I think people said the same thing about gastric bypass surgeries for weight loss.

There’s a very small percentage of people for whom diet and exercise alone isn’t enough.

Unfortunately the bad lifestyle habits of any shortcut method won’t be fixed and health will still suffer for many.

Even the olestra chips and Alli pills didn’t teach people a lesson despite their awful side effects 🤭

If these drugs can be used as part of a program track that helps people lose the initial weight and then taper them off and partner them with a diet and exercise plan, it could be more helpful.

Unfortunately people will see someone like Lizzo or Oprah and decide they want the drugs to get the quick results. And the drug companies are ok with it because it means more profits for them.

Jillian Michaels WOULD say that. It’s not good for the fitness industry to just take an injection instead of paying to be fit.
I side eye her. All those contestants on The Biggest Loser admitted to starving themselves to win… and she was in on that.
