There is a new selection of 5 lipsticks by Poppy King Lipstick Queen.

They are matte shades called "Velvet Rope"

I bought one today at Barney's .. Black Tie a really gorgeous red

The others are named Entourage, Private Party, Brat Pack & Star System

The lipstick case is gold ribbed very deco & sleek looking

Gorgeous texture on the lips & not drying..

If you love a beautiful red, this is it!!

I have this in Brat Pack and for a minute there, I thought I had found my HG red. However, it turned too dark and blue on me (NW10-15 here) and for some reason it made my skin look a bit ruddy?!

It's a bluer version of MAC Ruby Woo and a tiny bit less matte.

Also, the texture of this really is silky, really lovely, and like nothing else I've tried. The downside to this is that you can't blot/pat it on for a lighter effect which I really like (Chanel Gabrielle is really good for that).

I'm sticking with Ruby Woo and Chanel Gabrielle. I won't give up on Brat Pack though, I'll give it another try. Btw, I love the peppermint smell Brat Pack has ... and the name :P

Have you tried applying with a lip brush instead of directly from the tube?

I bought Black Tie... put it on with a lip brush then applied the lipstick
on my bottom lip heavier then blotted my lips together & viola...;)

I also found that I needed a lip liner...

I used a lip liner after applying the lipstick, to correct the lines (that's a must with this lipstick, like you said) but I will try to apply it with a lip brush and see if it makes a difference.

I have very fair skin and my natural lip colour is quite rosy-red so red lipstick often end up being too dark.
This really is a gorgeous lipstick, in both colour and texture, so I'd like for it to work ;)

I also am very fair but this is what I normally do with many of my
lipsticks.. I also will use the lip pencil all over my whole lip to fill in

What I like about Black Tie is after I blot it & put just a touch of gloss
it looks like a bitten lip...

I also found you can apply a lip color very lightly blot & then reapply
heavier & that works for me as well

Poppy is going to be in NYC this week doing a special appearance,
I'll ask for other tips/suggestions & pass along

Oh, that's cool.
Can you also ask her to make another true red lipstcik, just like Brat Pack but a bit lighter/brighter with less blue :upsidedown:
Have fun and I hope you get some good tips.
Now I can't wait to get home and try it with the lip pencil ;)

She just did a great interview on In the gloss. I really like her philosophy on beauty. She seems like a great person as well as a smart business women. Can't wait to check these out. Love her Blue Jean Queen and Saint lipsticks.
