How are we expected to line up at 3am on our vacation and not sure if we will even get an appointment?
Nobody expects you to line up at all. You choose to line up or not. You decide. It's your vacation and you decide how you want to spend your time. Hermes is a privilege not a necessity. Although I appreciate the stress of situation may cause to people who decided they must line up to try their luck, you have the choice not to.
In the meantime, maybe Hermes can improve the condition of the lines in some way. I don't know how but I feel they could do more.

Hermes needs to have a 24-hr or night security in order to pass out a fixed number of tickets. Or else the spot sellers will just sell their spots before the security arrives. And each person needs to present his passport to get the ticket, then one reseller can only get one ticket. The security would need to document the passport info (say name and first 4 digits of passport number).

Why should Hermes have to devote so much money and so many resources for the convenience of a group of customers who are not their best customers? Most of the people lining up are one timers who only want a bag or resellers. Again read the word most. Not all. Why should they encourage people to line up all night by providing all night supervision? I would think that they want to discourage this behavior and get rid of the mess rather than encourage it.

Imo queueing is unfortunate but a "necessary evil" so the store is not so crowded and having to wait ages for an SA. However, professional liners who sell their spot to more than one person is totally unacceptable!!

Do it like Wimbledon does for their queues: One person, one number in line. You can only enter when you have a number, so all those resellers/place sitters can only sell their spot to one person, because they have only one number.

This will solve the problem of a person lining up and thinking he/she is say, 4th in line, only to end up 20th in line because the the ones ahead of him/her sold their spot to multiple people. So when I get there and see that I hold ticket number 10, I am guaranteed to be the 10th person to enter the door.

I have no problem with people selling their spot in line. However it should be sold to one person only, not multiple people. Multiple people getting the slot of one is already line cutting, in my view.
This sounds very good actually!!

I think that whatever strategy/action Hermes takes will be to try to:
A) ensure a good working environment for their staff at the Paris stores
B) ensure that customers keep coming back to buy more items. This can be achieved by suppling excellent merchandise and a pleasant shopping experience.

The shopping experience is dependent on A since it involves dedicated and knowledgable staff. If the staff is not happy they will move on to other stores and it takes time to build up product knowledge.

IMHO queuing at FSH is like the lottery or walking into a casino. You don't know what you're going to get, if anything. Like the casino, security is present during business hours to protect the staff, store items and ensure some degree of civility. The rest is a matter of chance, and while I agree the actions of those who line jump, sell spots, and all that mess are distasteful, they're capitalizing on a lucrative financial situation.
That being said, I don't think H has an obligation to necessarily police the line, as it is a choice to queue.
At the end of the day, H is a business, and they'll sell to whomever they decide to sell to.

Any members at FSH right now? When I got here around 5:30, there was already a quite a scene at the front door. I think everyone there were prepared with some sort of seating. But at the side door, I saw something I had not expected. Someone brought an inflatable chair, quite large too. It is like a big lounger. In a way, I was impressed. Lol.

Oh btw, I'm like #16.

Hi,

I didn't line up as a teenager and young adult to get into clubs/bars to be graciously allowed to spend MY money there, I will not start lining up for anything to spend MY money on now. And to use a famous Eagles quote: hell freezes over before I would ever line up to get an appointment that might be dragged over the course of a day, constantly checking my phone for updates and hoping for the best at a chance, again, to spend MY money... That's like asking how high if someone says jump. And it surely has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with a luxury shopping experience. If this should become the new norm in other places too, I gladly put my cards down and leave the table.

Kind regards,
Oliver

I bet that in no documented history had anyone ever had to queue to get into a casino.

The level of intensity is sounding more and more like fighting for the survival of our specie.

Oliver, you're my hero : I couldn't have said it better and I totally share your opinion. Begging for spending MY hard earned money ? Really ?
Have a nice day.

Because it's the right thing to do. There's a difference between technically being responsible and what is ethically and morally correct. The line situation is beyond insane now according to this thread. People are lining up, and whether they are encouraging it or not it doesn't matter. It's happening at their door step, continues to get worse, and in my opinion they need to take action. Hopeful they'll have an online system soon and the line will be history. Hermes is an iconic luxury brand, with that status, they should own up the the responsibility to ensure a safe and pleasant environment while shopping for their brand.

I didn't mean literally queuing up to get into a casino lol...though, I know when they opened one up in my hometown there was a line to get in.

Fashion is passion, and the chance to own an icon is strong, particularly with esteemed publications running titles like "Birkins are better than gold" and the like.

No wonder people are acting like the sky is falling with articles like that floating about the interwebs ‍
