Lining up for Hermes - thoughts, rants, raves

his morning I was waiting at FSH again. There were a few group of people who were selling the spots. I think they are a large group of 15 Chinese. They are not only spots sellers, but resellers too. Because I heard them talking about buying watches and non-leather items to get a bag(Kelly/Birkin), after that they will sell the non-leather items in 30% discount. At the same time they keep asking everyone who just arrived the back of the queue if they want to join the front of the queue by paying 80 euros. They can accommodate more than 30 more people to join them! That's really disgusting!
Gosh that sounds so much worse than yesterday when I queued. Did you managed to get an appointment/ score the items you want today?

You were first in line but didn't get an appointment? This is because of the resellers??

I'm currently in Paris and am contemplating if I should wait in the queue. Lined up in December when I was last in Paris and did it 4 times in the freezing cold and was not shown anything due to the low stock levels after xmas. Hence my inner battle as to whether to line up again.
I was at FHS about 2 weeks ago, was first in line at 4.30am and still NO appointment! Will never go again

Seems like apart from having to beat the resellers who buys and sells bags. now there are even professional liners!!!!!!
Hermes seems to be creating lots of jobs for them haha.
I hope the system changes again soon. How are we expected to line up at 3am on our vacation and not sure if we will even get an appointment?

this is ridiculous and pitiful! sorry for all you guys going to FSH -- I would think it should be very exciting to be there... but all this madness not sure how people would enjoy their experiences....

Wow I am just amazed at what has happened to this already crazy line. I was planning on taking a trip to Paris and have watched these threads carefully. It appears however the way these spot sellers have set up their business where they sell one spot to 20-30, unless you are willing to buy a spot (which I will not do), your chance is slim to none now.

Just wondering to those that have lined up - when these sellers sell their spot to 20-30 people, what do the people behind them in the line say? Do they not object? But then, I guess this is where security get involved and not opening the doors until everyone settles down. This is sad indeed and I have decided that unless the system changes I will not line up.

I just can't imagine asking my husband to go line up on vacation at 4 in the morning...then I would want to nap later when we should be sightseeing. I'm intrigued by the discount (compared to the US), but feel like it would take away from a vacation. I feel like this would only work if you were with a group of GFs that loved bags.

I know I'm probably horrible for admitting this, but I would be tempted to pay for a spot. I just wish they sold them 1 for 1. That way, if there are four people in front of you, there should only be four people...not 12-16 right before the door opens.

Luckily, I don't have to make those choices since we aren't going to Europe this year! I'm hoping a better system will be in place the next time we are in Paris!

I don't think any spot seller can get away with selling one spot to 30 people. 2 days ago, I and my bf were the ones who were right behind the big group of spot sellers who apparently arrived at 1am to get the first spots. When we noticed that this woman is trying to sell her spot to multiple people, we objected immediately and said she could sell her spot to 1 person only. Then we were joined by multiple people behind us (basically anyone who could speak English and understood what was going on would speak up and agreed that spot should be sold one for one only). We all took photos and videos of what the original line was and told the sellers we would report them to Hermes security. Up to a point, many of us were saying "one for one only" together which showed this awesome unity. These resellers are very stubborn so they kept trying to argue but when multiple people spoke up together, I think that had a very good result. At 9am when Hermes security started policing the line, some people who had taken photos / videos reported the situation. And to everyone's cheer, the chief security guy went to each spot where multiple people have cut in and gave them 2 options: "Either you leave the line or you all come in and none of you will get an appointment!"

What I learnt after this ridiculous ordeal is that if people unite together and all speak up against anyone who try to cut in line or resellers selling to multiple people, the problem might be resolved.

This is great news...strength in numbers. They should post a sign that says 1 for 1. I don't think many would mind if it was 1 for 1.

Definitely! And if Hermes could make their stand a little more wide known, I.e. Only one for one swap and people who are reported due to line cutting etc. will not get an appointment, I believe the queue would be much better.

Good for you guys!!!

One thing that really surprised me about being and living in Europe is that there is a lot of line cutting by all nationalities. What was even more surprising is that no one called each other out. I'm glad that you guys all did because it's not right. It is so disrespectful for these cutters to assume that their time is more valuable than ours.

On my recent trip, I had to call out these two tourists in a pharmacy because they were about to cut the line to "ask a question." Well, I got in line to ask a question too so I was shocked that they felt that it was okay to do that. The people in front of me were really grateful that I did but just shocked that they didn't feel comfortable speaking out.

Ditto at CDG in the Sky Priority border control - this family decided that it was acceptable to cut a large group of us off assuming that having 3 kids was equivalent to being handicapped and getting special treatment. I was not amused since 1) they were not Sky Priority and 2) I have a child their children's age and would never think to cut a whole group of people off just because I was traveling with a child(ren). To DH's embarrassment, I called them out very publicly and after cutting multiple times as the lines merged, they stopped.

Anyhow - to folks lining up at FSH, please don't let these line cutters or multi-line sellers get away with this. Please speak up and stand up for your time...it's as valuable as theirs!

Do it like Wimbledon does for their queues: One person, one number in line. You can only enter when you have a number, so all those resellers/place sitters can only sell their spot to one person, because they have only one number.

This will solve the problem of a person lining up and thinking he/she is say, 4th in line, only to end up 20th in line because the the ones ahead of him/her sold their spot to multiple people. So when I get there and see that I hold ticket number 10, I am guaranteed to be the 10th person to enter the door.

I have no problem with people selling their spot in line. However it should be sold to one person only, not multiple people. Multiple people getting the slot of one is already line cutting, in my view.

Hermes needs to have a 24-hr or night security in order to pass out a fixed number of tickets. Or else the spot sellers will just sell their spots before the security arrives. And each person needs to present his passport to get the ticket, then one reseller can only get one ticket. The security would need to document the passport info (say name and first 4 digits of passport number).
