I didn’t see a thread on this, so just thought I would start one…

As I’m sure most of you are aware, Chanel just debuted a luxury “advent calendar” that’s in the shape of their iconic perfume bottle. It’s filled with an assortment of beauty products and other trinkets that are wrapped individually in little boxes that are numbered from 5-31. Obviously paying homage to the No. 5 fragrance and 31 Rue Cambon. It retails for $825.

I know it’s kind of gimmicky and expensive, but I think it’s a beautiful set for any Chanel lover or collector. I missed out on the factory 5 collection so I decided to splurge and pre-order this one. Has anyone else pre-ordered it? I don’t know if I’ll go about it “traditionally” and open one box per day, or save it and open the entire contents on Christmas Day lol. Christmas is my favorite holiday so it would be fun to open!

Would love to hear your thoughts on this set!

I initially wasn’t interested in the factory 5 collection at all, but got fomo and ended up getting most of the bigger items. After getting them I started to appreciate the aesthetic, so having learned from almost missing out that time, I thought this advent calendar was going to be an instant preorder for me, but at this price point, I expected a lot more full size products, or at least less trinkets made out of paper…

I thought advent calendars were supposed to contain contents that exceed the value of the purchase price. This one has ~$250 worth of purchasable products but retails for $800+

Not ruling it out completely, but the items will have to blow my mind in person for me to buy this.

When Dior first launched their advent calendar (last year or a couple years ago maybe?), I thought it was pretty expensive at around $500. However, after seeing this at ~$800 and contains only a few “usable” products, I feel that Dior’s is way more reasonable.

I’m in general not a fan of Dior’s beauty or fragrance line, but the design and aesthetic of their advent calendar this year is beautiful. Still not going to shell out $500 no matter how splendid the box is since I don’t like the products, but I was expecting Chanel’s advent calendar to at least be better than Dior’s, and was fully prepared to throw money at them as long as they did not disappoint…

I think the aesthetic aspect is one reason why I’m so drawn to this set - I love the whimsical nature of the exaggerated perfume bottle and plan on displaying it on my shelf lol. I do agree that the actual contents of the calendar are definitely not worth $800 and that they could have included less paper materials… but I feel like at this point, part of it is you are paying for the experience and that they don’t make things like this often (if ever?). At least that’s what I tell myself lmao

It’s the hardest “no” for me. I own most of their exclusive range fragrances and those are special. This set is shamelessly overpriced by Chanel.

That’s what I tried to tell myself, but then I watched super dacob’s video, he said a lot of the gift items are not new or unique to this advent calendar, they’ve been gifted for free at one time or another before.

This whole thing just feels like a mildly lazy attempt at quick cash flow.

I’ve only ever received one gift… it was a lipstick set with a cosmetic pouch. I’ve never received any of the other collectors gifts so I’m personally okay with the price. I guess it’s really subjective. I know the price is ridiculous, but then again their pricing has been crazy in general. I do have to say that FOMO was definitely a factor for me because I missed out on the factory 5 collection… so there’s that lol.

I’m sure resellers will be hoarding these sets and charging 2x the amount which I would never pay.

I splurged as well. Last year I splurged on the La Mer calendar (that one was less than half the priced...lol). My birthday is December first so I start opening them 25 days before with December 1 being the big finale. :)

I have to agree with everyone who think this is overpriced :P I love their pouch sets they do every year but not this one! I heard the frame is made of paper, too, before, I had thought the only way to justify the price is if the case is made of lacquered wood or something that you can use as house object afterwards...

so far it's being offered on an invitation-only basis until official launch on 10/15, 1 unit per customer, and it seems 3/4 has already been sold on preorder, so it would be relatively hard for resellers to hoard these.

some of the bracelets and mini perfume samples are either currently being given to clients for free or have been given in the past. I think the mini No.5 and No.5 Leau perfume samples in the No.5 shaped bottles were given with Factory 5 purchases, though I haven't seen the items in person so I don't know for sure. I think some boutiques still have them available now.

It is really subjective though. I got a heads up from my SA when the factory 5 collection launched, and I thought it was absolutely bonkers that anybody would pay $75 for a glass water bottle...2 weeks and a lot of fomo later, guess who bought a $75 water bottle -_-''

so it's highly possible that in a few days, I'll think this advent calendar is the best thing since sliced bread. Chanel has a knack for doing that to me XD
