Let's talk Delvaux!

After stalking and lurking for a pretty long time I finally decided to go to the Delvaux boutique in NYC which is about an hour from where I live. I had texted with a SA (who I believe has posted in this forum) and already had a sense of how lovely she was. But I figured the bags would not live up to my expectations. Well, I was wrong. What a delightful experience. All of it. The store, the sales associate, the manager, and the bags. Which actually surpassed what I was expecting. I love everything about this brand. In a weary world of increasing costs and decreasing quality, Delvaux stands apart. I chose the Brillant pm in the rodeo leather in vegetal. Small but roomy she checks all the boxes. Top handle. Cross body strap. Inside zip pocket. Back pocket- perfect for phone. Feet. Low key. Luxurious. I now want to sell all my handbags and just own Delvaux. I’ve been a handbag person since before I could even afford them and this brand reminds me why. The manager took the time to get to know both me and my husband and even broke out the champagne for my first Delvaux purchase. Even my husband was impressed. I want to be their brand ambassador even though I’m a chubby 61-year-old non-influencer. I hope I’ve convinced someone out there that Delvaux is the real deal. If this sounds like a paid endorsement, it’s not.

How has your bag been? I'm thinking of a CB in the same colour. Only reservation for me is I wish the hw was silver-tone
Just wanted to share my beautiful, new-to-me, vintage Delvaux beauty from 1953! I love so many of Delvaux's present-day designs, especially their Magritte collection, but the vintage styles...the leather, the craftsmanship, and the unbelievable condition you can find some of these bags in today (especially this one!) make me weak in the knees.
I purchased from MyDayDayBelgium, who is such a nice seller to work with. IMO they take such meticulous care in acquiring and preserving the bags (and their history!) that they sell. I am summarizing a little of what they wrote to me about its history and provenance:
This one is called the Venus, born under the Master Craftsman Monsieur Dooms as part of the Delvaux Winter collection the same year Queen Elizabeth was crowned and Stalin died. The question was posed to Delvaux whether the name Venus (goddess of love, beauty, harmony) was intentional, given the events of the year, and they could not confirm (or deny! 😏). The bag belonged to a family whose grandmother used it exclusively for special occasions (namely Sunday mass). The daughter (now in her 60s) had fond memories of secretly playing with it, since it was essentially forbidden fruit that she was not supposed to touch!
Just so tickled to own this little piece of history. I love the stories and memories that our handbags accumulate over the years.

I agree, D still stands apart. Other leather-goods companies do have some amazing bags but you have to sift through their more commercial pieces.

Congratulations! I have 2 of their bags and am itching for a third (Tempete...possibly the shoulder version for eve) and others. Amazing quality and v. stylish. It's definitely an IYKYK brand where people see it and appreciate the style without it screaming about what brand it is.
I'm with you. I love vintage Delvaux. Foolishly, I sold my very vintage Brillant because the structure was so funky. I should have kept it. Nonetheless, do you know how to date Delvaux?
