Ha! Now this is very true. I do realize that variation is to be expected in bags that are hand made, and in fact that can be part of its charm! I wish I found my "flaw" more charming. 😂 Outside of the visual aesthetic, I do worry about the deterioration over time with use...whether it continues to pull out further, dirt and grime getting in there, etc.

PS I love the color of your bag!!!!
It’s three different colours of ostrich (the side panels and sangles are a light orchid)

I get what you mean… especially when you do have another bag that was made without a single stitch out of place. But at least with Delvaux you don’t have to wait years. (Gotta pick your battles 🤣)

Ha, yes! And the whole thing where you can get an appointment, go into the store, ask for what you want, and probably get it (or have it sourced or made to order :-)).

I would love to see a photo of your ostrich bag!

Ok, finally have more of a final update. My SA in Paris is back from vacation and we spoke via phone this morning.

He said he spent some time chatting with the atelier and he walked me through the bag's construction. Bottom line, this is simply how the bag is made because they are unable to stitch the top of that "pointy" or narrow text - I think due to how the different leathers are pieced together but don't quote me (it made sense when he explained it). He showed me a brand new bag with the leather pulling exactly in the same places as mine. He noted that they couldn't glue it down because obviously that could deteriorate down the road, but also it could damage the leather. I was told the stitching will stay in place so I should not have issues with it pulling out any further than it already is - if it does, then obviously they can re-stitch it.

He did spend some time talking about how the bag is constructed a bit differently from the older version but we derailed a bit talking about the shoulder strap so I'm not 100% sure why the lettering on older bags doesnt seem to have this issue...perhaps they use a different technique or leather now? I'm not sure/can't remember but didn't want to text him again. 😂

So, bottom line - I am going to try to let it go, trust in the Delvaux artisans, and start using and enjoying my bag. Still not sure what decision I would have made if I'd known all of this upfront but I appreciate that he spent the time to explain in such detail. It was a pleasant conversation, and I do feel like, should something go awry down the road, they will make it right. Before we hung up, I asked him about one of the pieces in the new spring collection and he actually had one on hand to show me (not for sale until next year), so we signed off on a happy note.

Side notes: When I couldn't get hold of my SA last week, I had called the NYC store to see if they could help. I reached out to my contact there today, just to close the loop. She shared that she was told the same thing about the bag construction.

And finally...had I super zoomed in on L'Humour on their website, I would have seen this from the getgo (screenshot below). Alas! Anyway, hope my experience will help someone else.

I am glad your SA connected with the atelier and reached back out to you. It is puzzling to me that they changed techniques which led to this issue arising. It seems that they knew about it given the glue comments? I hope that they reexamine this different technique and go back to the old one which worked. I am also not sure how you could have foreseen the leather poping out like that even after zooming in to the photo, that shouldn't be on the client regarding a luxury purchase.

In any case, I hope that you are able to enjoy the bag! It is still very stunning and unique. The box leather Delvaux uses is really nice IMO.

Thank you, it surprises me as well! Even simply from an aesthetics perspective, it just doesn't seem in line with their brand standards. And there may be more things I simply don't understand about it or that were lost in translation, but either it's not resulting in significant enough issues/complaints that they want to fix it or it's just not a priority.

Anyway, we'll see how it holds up! It will have its inaugural run tomorrow. ☺️ I really do love love its uniqueness as well, and agreed with you on the box leather!

He's just trying to placate you. From the pictures, one of two things is happening: either (1) the leather is cracking and separating (in which case edge painting would have prevented this), or (2) the leather is pulling away (in which case the leather wasn't completely glued down). Either way, there are steps that could have been taken during the construction to prevent this. But now that the bag is finished, it would not be a quick fix.

It’s just how they make it now (see photos)

Hi ladies! I’m finally taking a serious look at Delvaux and met a nice SA as the store just opened in Malaysia - I love the brilliant and tempete designs and also the cool box all of a sudden as I also want to add variety to my H and Chanel bags mostly

I found this with a reseller the colour combo is so sweet but I believe it was released in 2021, is it dated looking ? Would love your knowledgeable opinions as I’m so new to the brand
TIA 😬
