I agree with Quigs. The comments following the article offer differing opinions.

In any case, all leather soles show wear. They rub against the ground, every step we take in them. So, I find the author's pronouncement of her shoes as "wrecked" a little ridiculous given the circumstances.

If you ask, every retailer of designer shoes will discuss the benefits of having a protective sole added to your shoes, without exception. This is not necessary, but it is less expensive in the long run with regard to extending the life of a designer shoe. On the other hand, it's perfectly fine to wear your shoes with the original soles intact and have them re-soled when needed.

In the case of the author's experience, the sole was likely fine, since the cobbler merely added a rubber half sole protector. Moreover, when the cobbler adds a rubber half sole protector, the process involves grinding down the sole anyway.

As for your comment re: CLs: polish is a remedy to restore a sole - not a protectant. Ladies who want to protect their CLs for outdoor wear, typically have rubber half-soles added to their shoes by a cobbler. Or they wear one pair of shoes outdoors - and switch into CLs indoors.

Why aren't designer shoes protected for outdoor wear with more durable soles? Many women who primarily wear their designer shoes indoors don't need a shoe with a durable sole. Moreover, even though many designers offer shoes with rubber soles, many designer shoe fans tend to complain about the "cheapness" of rubber soles vs. leather soles.

In the end, how well shoes will wear under your use and care is entirely personal. If you're hard on your shoes, then it will be likely that designer shoes will be no exception. In which case, you'll probably prefer avoiding more delicate materials (i.e. metallics, specchio, silk, embellished decorations, etc.) and you'll probably prefer to have your soles protected prior to wearing them.

Personally, I love the feel of wearing the original soles on my designer shoes. So I don't have any protectors on my shoes. But, I'm not very hard on my shoes. Nevertheless, I've walked outdoors for hours at a time - for years - and not had a single problem with my Jimmy Choos. Did the sole remain a pristine beige color after wear? Of course not. Neither did the soles on my other pairs of designer shoes with beige soles (i.e. Chanel, Valentino, Dior, etc.). Moreover, a scratch here or there doesn't bother me. They're shoes. I don't expect them to be invincible, and it doesn't bother me when they show normal signs of wear.

If the "investment" seems high to you for a pair of shoes, you can try the designer sales and outlets for your first few pairs. GL! :smile1:

Hi ladies, first time in this part of the forum. I am thinking of buying a pair of Choo's, but i have never bought designer shoes before (mainly out of fear of spending lots of money on them and ruining them). I have my heart set on a pair of Tease (or Totem's) or a pair of Linda's in a metallic colour. I think they will go fab with my dress. But i found this article that says that Jimmy Choo's can be recked within a day of ware if you do not get the sole replace before you wear them (I'm thinking because it s a delicate leather). Check out the article

Is this true? If so i am really going to have to re think this. I had heard C.L Girls put nail polish on the sole to protect the red colour, but i had not heard you can't wear shoes without getting soles put on them first. Please tell me it's not true. I wouldn't have time before the party.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have several pairs of Choo sandals, though not those. For me, I have always needed the same size in sandals as in flats, boots, and low heels. I believe it is because the thong strap is set back more than other brands, so I need the same size. I have even sized up a half size just for comfort. It all depends on the length and proportion of your foot.

I hope some other people answer you, because all feet are different. Can you try some on somewhere in a thong style?

Thank you very much for your answer.

In two weeks, i'll be able to go to a Jimmy Choo shop. So I think i'll wait. I just wanted to have them before :D

I would not worry. I have lots of pairs of Choos and have never had an additional sole put on even after lots of wear.

Very old article. Any shoe lover knows not to put an additional sole onto their shoe (be it JC or CL) A designer spends a great deal of time perfectly balancing the shoe. An additional sole will throw out that equation and the shoe will cause discomfort. The thinking behind JC shoes are that the sole are more like a dancers shoe, suede, flexible finish rather than a harsh sole (CL) the materials used cause the sole to be very flexible, enabling the foot to flex naturally, by adding aharsh inflexible plastic sole you lose this flexibility. If you want your suede soled shoes to be pristine, then quite simply don't walk outside in them, through wet weather and harsh surfaces!!!! The journalist in this article spent the day walking around London, intentionally trashing her shoes.

I've been a fan of JC shoes since 2005, not once has a SA advised me to get them re-soled, also Mum (s)-net (don't want it to show in searches) is a notorious forum in the UK for everything that is negative about internet forums.

The comments section under the article contains opinions of other JC owners who had different experiences. I own four pair of JCs and have not encountered any problems. If the bride in the article was going to have her wedding photos taken in the grass, she should have had her shoes waterproofed.

Does anyone know anything about the "Victory" shoe in matte leather? Saw them at Harrod's this weekend (during the additional 10% off sale!) but when I looked them up on the JC site I didn't see them listed. Can't find anything about them on the internet in general.

Are they from a previous season or discontinued? Also, the box at Harrod's had all the Jimmy Choo usual info but also had the website "www.kurtgeiger.com" I found that to be odd - are they owned by the same company? They are both British.

Ladies what do you think of these shoes? I need a day time heel for warmer days. I'm a Louboutin girl and have never owned a pair of Jimmy Choo heels only flats. I'm also a bit concerned about how the suede will wear but I've been told the suede is treated in the factory.
I have them in black. Absolutely love them. Super comfortable. I think this color would be great for daytime. FYI, for fit purposes, if you can't try them on before you buy... The suede is stretchy everywhere except in the toe box, so I'd suggest sizing up if you're between sizes (I wear 36.5 in patent pumps but 37 in these)

Post pics if you decide to get them!

Hi ladies! New to the JC forum, but lover of JC shoes. I hope you don't mind me popping in to ask a question.
I'm trying to decide if I should purchase the Poem. I am afraid they'll be too high and skinny. I like the Nova, But found the Cosmic to be too difficult to walk in. Can anyone give an opinion on if the Poem would work for me?
