I don't find it to be particularly heavy but with hardware and my contents (cosmetic case, large wallet, card holder, journal, keys, phone, etc.) it does have some weight. Even when I have it full, it never hurts my shoulder. I wouldn't think of it as a heavy bag.

No, sorry there isn't an outside pocket but it does have two large internal pockets.
