La Mer....worth it??

Not worth the money to me. I buy costly face creams, Estee Lauder, etc, that I think are expensive enough. I think the key is to use a daily moisturizer with sunscreen as early as you can, a habit I started in my late teens. I'm 50 now, I get many compliments on my skin.

If somebody has a condition that only La Mer addresses, go for it. By that time I'm sure La Mer customers have tried everything else.

Costco frequently has luxury face creams (I've seen Chanel and Sisley on Costco online) at better prices than in dept stores.

I told the sales people at the Neiman Marcus makeup counter that I'd pay for a full face lift before I'd drop $500+ on a jar of face cream. They say they hear that a lot.

I tried the entire line, including face wash, toner, regenerating serum, and the famous face cream. My face literally peeled and burned, it was almost like a chemical burn on my face. Obviously there are people that swear by this stuff so it was probably just me, maybe it worked too well at exfoliating & removing the top layer of my skin, but I didn't like it at all.

my husband works for a fancy cosmetics company that does skin creams. he said the majority of any lotion is just water...even la mer is going to be mostly water.

i wouldn't spend that kind of money on a skin cream unless I was a millionaire.

I bought and used a jar but didn't find it to do anything better then the moisturizers I normally buy for 1/3rd or 1/5th of the price. There was nothing special or miraculous about it for me.

I've been using La Mer for over 10 years. It works. I get so many compliments on my face and people always ask me what I use or do to my face. No wrinkles and my skin glows.

La Mer works better for normal to dry skin. When I was younger, I had oily skin and still used it, and it was fine. But I have noticed the most effectiveness as my skin has gotten more normal to dry over the past 10 years.

I have tried other brands including Chanel, Natura Bisse, Guerlain, but NOTHING compares to La Mer.

The treatment serums are fabulous.

The newest products, the lifting serum and lifting mask are amazing.

I have some scars left from bad acne, however they will fade somewhat over time. Have you tried using Retin-A? That helped me a lot and I use Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream every day then apply Elta MD sunscreen on top of that. If you are having difficulties with REALLY dry skin try this stuff that I posted below. I usually use during winter when my face is super dry. I don't know about La Mer, I have tried it before and didn't really notice anything...maybe because I have younger skin I have nothing to fix? If it works for you go for it!!! :)

So recently my acne has FINALLY died down (woot) but now my skin is really dry, and still has a little bit of scarring.. I decided to do some window shopping in the cosmetics section looking for some scar removing creams or moisturizers, etc. (ventured to a whole other universe, as a guy, god I didnt know that you could have SO MANY different types of creams - I call bull**** with all the gimmicks and stuff, as if cream could get rid of wrinkles and you know make you have a tan, etc.) anyways I wondered to the one of the more quieter stands.. La Mer.

Cutting the story down, I had this sticker shock moment when cream could cost about $500!! I mean two tubs and I could probably buy a nice set of SLGs from Saint Laurent or something.. Add the lip balm and some of those serum things I could probably buy a nice bag or something!!

So I was unsure and I wanted to see if it worked (apparently the guy who created that serum had severe burns and he used this formula to smoothen and get rid of scars) - the nice SA actually gave me two samples (the creme de la mer and the creme de la mer in the gel form to suit my oily skin). I have been using the Creme de la Mer for about a week now and my skin is smooth, I mean really smooth, and some of the lighter scarring has disappeared (it is no gimmick)!!

My dilemma is should I really buy the full sized cream?? I mean it will literally last me a long time to use it all up at the rate I am going, but I am still trying to justify spending that much money on some cream.. So I am asking you ladies, does anyone use La Mer and over the years, did it show any drastic improvements over the years, or did the body just adapt to it and you ended up just putting on some random cream and the effects of La Mer are basically non existent. Also if there are any alternatives, could you suggest any.. I know Clinique, Chanel, Dior, etc. all have the moisturizing creams, but how about the scar removal creams?? Any ideas? Or suggestions??

Sorry for the long post, but thanks for reading and hopefully you ladies understand what my dilemma is and any other alternatives to La Mer.. (it is practically the Hermes of skincare, apparently lol)

Claire used £1 Nivea cream on half her face - and £105 Crème de la Mer on the other. The results are VERY revealing
Alison Steadman, 66, recently said she doesn't use expensive face creams
She, Kate Winslet and Joan Collins moisturise with Nivea Crème
Can a potion that costs just over £1 really compete with a luxury brand?
Claire Cisotti put them to the test for a month

my DH works in an upscale skincare factory. ANY skincare line is going to be made up of mostly water.

Even without that knowledge, I don't think any lotion is worth that much. I love make up and skincare but after using expensive and drugstore brands, I find results always the same.

oh wow this is very intresting

^ Up close, the La Mer side looks much better to me. I see less fine lines/wrinkles around her mouth area, her skin looks more youthful, glowy and has a bit more lift in the cheek area as well. Overall, I see a difference with La Mer.

la mer works so well on my skin, i've been using it since 2011. i was having a terrible breakout for about 6 months after using chemical peeling, and la mer healed my skin in 3 weeks.
i don't care what people say or think that la mer is just a marketing trick to make an expensive brand, they might not have an experience like mine
