Chiming in about epsom KW and patina. I only have one KW and I wear mine as a clutch. I have not noticed any shiny patina but the leather is slightly less stiff. Love KW in epsom, but would like to have a KP in BB with guilloche phw and a BBK 32 ghw is on my wishlist too ( have to go vintage) so I completely understand your passion about box leather. Since I carry my KW as a clutch I need to be able to clean it and epsom is so structured too. Chevre works for me in slgs and Bs and Ks. However, IMO Epsom KW is great. I sometimes like to match it with my orange epsom KDT. Hope you get more feedback on epsom [emoji1]

Serva is that a Brandebourg shawl with your kelly wallet? I am looking for this [emoji2]

Hi, may I ask where you saw the RC Epsom with GHW? Thanks!

The RC Epsom with GHW was available on the the US Hermes site the same time as the flag. It was online for a few hours and someone bought it right away. The RC Epsom KW appears online occasionally throughout the year.

Hi Kelly Wallet owners,

I'm excited to say I'm joining your club-- but I would love to get a little feedback on your experiences before I figure out with what specs precisely I'm joining your ranks!

So here's my dilemma. I have bought a black Epsom KW from my local boutique. It's beautiful, and the matte-ness of the leather gives it a wonderful, youthful, not-too-formal vibe. But when I see it next to my black box Kelly, I realize the matte quality of the Epsom KW doesn't sing to me in the same way box does. I adore box. And I do sometimes like to be dressy, and box, to my eye, transitions so smoothly from jeans to a cocktail dress. I don't mind a bit of waiting to get things exactly right, so I could certainly look for a black box KW on the resale market since they are no longer appearing in stores.

So why not just return the Epsom straightaway? Well, I'm not sure it isn't the right choice. TPFers I trust have shared their experiences with their Epsom KWs and have nothing but glowing things to say. The only thing that's putting me off, really, is that the wallet itself isn't glowing! But when I look at my Rubis Epsom Calvi-- well-loved after several years of constant handling-- it has a beautiful sheen on it, much like Courcheval. This makes me wonder if, with daily handling, the Epsom KW attains a similar sheen. Maybe it doesn't simply because it's larger and not so comprehensively covered by one's hands as a calvi is. Those of you who've had your Epsom wallets for a while and used them regularly, are you finding the finish of the leather has evolved? If the Epsom KW were to take on just a touch more glossiness over time, I think I'd be thrilled to keep it. Would love to hear your experiences!

Not sure if you got enough feedback or decided already but thought I'd send in my observance. I have 2 Epsom wallets, azap and KW. My azap was a blue thalassa and I used it almost non-stop for 6-7 years. Epsom holds up great through so many things and is a hardy leather. Over the years with all the hand touching and tossing in bag etc I notice the leather dulls. Again that's with a lot of hand holding. However, once I took it in for a repair and then they did a quick rub cleaning and it shined up a little again and looked nice. With my KW blue electric which I have been using off and on for a year it's still shiny.

I think if you want shiny patina over the years Epsom may not be it. However I find this leather to withstand well vs the chèvre. I know nothing about wear and tear of a box wallet but for me I need a leather that won't shape or mold into a shape over time based on the inside contents and this does a much better job compared to a softer leather like chèvre. Not sure if I'm making sense.

Serva1, please accept my apologies for such a tardy reply to your incredibly thorough and helpful post! I never seem to get quote notifications on TPF-- maybe the latest update to the forum will fix this problem, which quite a few of us seem to have?

In any case, thanks for sharing your experience and your pictures! That orange is TDF-- so striking, but also such a perfect neutral, and the matte nature of Epsom enhances its beauty. It makes me think that what I would love is a bright color in Epsom, but box leather in black. Maybe this just means I need TWO Kelly wallets. That's the logical response, right? ;)

(And-- while we're at it-- I can't endorse a vintage BBK heartily enough! Mine must be my most-used H bag, and I use it carefree, letting it get bumped by passersby on city streets, stuffing it under airplane seats, etc. It just gets shinier and shinier-- truly a stellar leather. I hope you find a 32 you love soon.)

dessert1st, thank you so much for your response, and you're absolutely making sense! How incredibly interesting that your Epsom has become duller after almost a decade. I wonder if my shiny little calvi is in a honeymoon period in which it glows for now after 3 years, but might progress back to matte and then beyond matte. H leather aging is such an interesting phenomenon.

I totally agree with you on chevre. I wouldn't trade my Chevre Jhansi and CDC handbags for anything, but I have to be precious with my chevre mysore Bastia and Karo (worth it-- the colors are gorgeous), and I think I'd be nervous having it in a KW. My central criterion is the same as yours, it seems-- I want the sharp lines of the Kelly wallet to stay sharp over the years. I've ordered a black box KW off the resale market and am going to compare it to the Epsom, but I have a feeling the Epsom will be making a trip back to the store and the box will stay.

I'm a guy so I feel like I cannot use it, but the Kelly wallet is so gorgeous. Today at my local Hermès store I found one on display in black, shiny croc with ghw and it was so gorgeous!

FWIW there is a male TPF member I have seen totally rock a black lizard Kelly wallet, carried inside a Birkin. Of course one's style and personal preferences have to factor in, but just food for thought if you really love the style. I bet that croc was a sight to see. :)

Hi Danny- you can absolutely use it! I'm a guy, as well, I have several Kelly wallets- I find it to be my favorite out of the dozens of wallets I have. I always gravitate back to my K wallets. The multiple slots for credit cards, long slots for bills, and generous gussets are perfect. I even put my phone in my K wallet sometimes.

My black box KW has landed, and I'm so thrilled with it! For my style, box is the right choice for a black Kelly wallet, so the black Epsom has gone back to the store-- but I definitely have my eye on Epsom for a future, more colorful KW purchase. Maybe red, pink, orange, or blue... or all of the above!

Thanks to everyone whose advice helped guide me to the Kelly wallets in general and assist me in choosing one in particular!
