I wish you stylish ladies would post some photos of outfits / occasions you wear your box Kelly. Also how often do you carry box?

I know box is considered "the" bag for afficionados, but (having sold mine) I wonder how often they are carried. For an easy to carry bag, I would chose epson (assuming togo or chevre wasn't an option).

I don’t have Epsom myself, and can’t imagine I will ever buy it for anything but small leather goods, but I do have Courcheval, its glossier and (to my eye) more “dimensional” predecessor. I am far, far more carefree with my seven Box bags than I am with the one Courcheval bag. I know once the Courcheval bag gets a deep enough scratch or scuff, there will be no repairing it. My Box bags look better and better with time. This is a matter of personal taste, however, and it’s easy for me to imagine someone whose wardrobe or personal preferences mean patina is just a euphemism for “beat up.” For me it’s the goal!

The exception to all of the above is rain. I no longer waterproof my box leather bags, and it is a downer not to be able to carry them in the rain— but that’s where Barenia and Vache step in!

Thank you for the compliments my dear, you're very kind. People are actually a lot more helpful and nice to me when I wear my much more conventional 'uniform of': skinny jeans; tee or cash jumper; DMs; single breasted black cash Crombie (or longer Crombie-style Gucci if it's cold) plus BBK. I just add some heavy silver jewellery for 'edge' (my BBK had gh as you can see). Many people may tell themselves they're very open-minded about how others dress etc but IME my more flamboyant mode of self-expression can actually distance a lot of people, sometimes I care and sometimes "I am my own special creation".

I think the main thing is to a) check the weather forecast b) take a large fold-down, light waterproof bag (lots of these extra folding shopping bags are not so test) if still nervous and c) be brave. Lots of these bags have been around for decades and they're fine (the blisters occur because water has been allowed to sit, so just wipe droplets away with tissue). My RH B Bolide was in an unexpected downpour and is fine. BTW, some have reported that Epsom can blister in the rain too.

Don't be shy, come to the meet if you can, you would be welcome. Just register interest by a brief post on the thread so I can't forget.

I agree.
Ladysarah, box leather is not as fragile as most people think. The beauty of box leather is the luxurious feel and look of the leather. Sure there will be minor scratches and scruffs but it's leather and most can be buffed out. I have been caught in a downpour with my bbk and it didn't blister. I don't waterproof it but make sure to wipe it dry right away.

Don't get me wrong ladies, I love the look of Box and appreciate the luxurious feel.

However I have observed that in real life, I rarely use box ( could it be rainy London?) but the Epsom is very much a grab and go. It has already accompanied me to several trips to Paris, flights and trains. With box I always felt a little more dressed up.

While I have yet to acquire a Kelly I imagine I will ultimately go with a more durable leather so that I feel comfortable using it more often. I lead a generally casual lifestyle so while I love box, I think it will be too dressy for me to get a lot of use out of in addition to my generally trying to minimize the number of bags in my life that I need to over think taking care of. :)
