Jypsiere 28 or Bolide 31

I just got a 28 and I have to say I'm in love! It's a cross body birkin! It's classic Hermes but perfect for my casual lifestyle. I'm usually a cross body bag gal and this just hit the mark for me. Admittedly I was never drawn to the bag, I bought it for function because I rarely use my birkins...and I'm so glad I did! I would imagine anything larger than a 28 might get heavy though. I would say, if you carry little, have a casual lifestyle and like the aesthetics of a birkin, this is the bag for you!

I agree completely! Love my gold 28, especially because it has the stylish elements of a birkin but is less "fussy", if you know what I mean.

IMG_0671.JPG I bought a J28. I've been eyeing it on the sofa every time I walk into my livingroom. Wearing it on my shoulder and cross-body in the bathroom full length mirror. I have a few days to think about it or exchange for a Bolide.
My husband tells me not to overthink and just "rip off the bandage" (in other words, just wear it). At this price point, I need to be comfortable with my decision.
I like it a lot. It fits everything and is relatively light-weight. I've always loved the look. I need to get used to having no hand carry option. All of my cross-body and shoulder bags have hand handles, too.
Stay tuned...

I have the same bag and I love it!

I used to carry my Jypsière by hand, using a twilly. The clemence leather is soft enough to allow it... it's a bit cumbersome, but fun imo!
How did you do that? Did it stretch out the twilly due to the weight of the bag? Like the OP, I do miss having a grab'n'go handle on the top of the bag.

I do not own either bag. This is a good thread for me to read so I can organize my thoughts if I decide to purchase one.
At first I preferred the Bolide. It's classic. I considered it but always seemed to purchase another bag instead. Now I favor the Jypsiere because it is unique.

The decision is tough!
Which one do you think you will feel more at ease wearing?
Do you ever think to stay with your first impression? (Like taking a test, changing your answer & it's wrong?)
I agree with you. The amount of the bag justifies deliberation

I put the bag away. It's been out of sight since Saturday night. I miss it. Well, as much as you can miss a bag.
I'm going to pull it out this morning and I'll gauge my reaction. Excited to see it or "meh".

I'm just a wee bit nervous about all that glaze on the seams, since I've had glaze issues before with another company.

The look is very clean. I like that it's not everywhere in my city. When it comes to Hermes bags, the PTSA moms at my daughter's school carry Birkins or Evelynes. I've always colored a little outside the box.

The Jypsiere is under the radar, with a hint of Hermes hardware.
This black bag would be awesome for adventures in major cities and I wouldn't have to worry about color transfer when wearing dark clothes.

The Bolide is still a favorite, but I'm thinking I'd prefer it in a color other than black. Jypsiere in black has that urban vibe I'm looking for right now.

Eeeeeek. Maybe I do need to "rip off the bandage". I think the pricetag is part of my hesitation. It took a huge chunk out of my handbag piggybank. I had one (more expensive) bag I never used because of its light color. I sold it.
I can't believe my first NEW car I received as a college graduation gift (back in the 1980's) was a fully loaded Honda Civic at a pricetag of $6000. I'm carrying bags that cost as much as my first two cars combined. :wtf:

Question- How does clemence leather do in the rain?

How did you do that? Did it stretch out the twilly due to the weight of the bag? Like the OP, I do miss having a grab'n'go handle on the top of the bag.

Well, I never did that for such a long time that it stretched the twilly... and it was a Jypsière 28, so not that heavy.
Anyway I finally sold the Jypsière - too impratical for my taste...

I've carried mine in light drizzly rain, and it wiped right off. I do carry a folded plastic bag to protect it in case of a sudden downpour, but for now, I avoid carrying it on rainy days. Maybe when I've had it a while, I will, but not just yet. I used it on a short urban vacation and it was great. Hands free, fun, easy to get into when needed, but secure enough that I didn't worry about someone reaching in to grab something.

The glazing seems durable - it seems more flexible than some other more rigid glazing. I've heard of it cracking on the straps, but I don't see it on my fairly new one.

I had to justify spending so much on a bag as well. It cost double most of my other bags, so it was a significant jump up. But I had not made a major bag purchase for a few years, and noticed that most of my existing bags now cost 30-40% more, so the 50% jump was reasonable (!!) for an H bag, than e.g. to get a C flap etc.

I also reasoned whether I would be able to get a B or K within the next 5 years, and the opportunity cost of the J as a stopgap. My window is 5 years, because in 10 years I may have different priorities, and B/K may not work at that time. I will get good use out of the J in the next 5 years.

Thank you for your input, it is very much appreciated. I live in a city with drizzling rain and I was curious about how much I should worry.

I'm fascinated with threads and posts where people have several B and K bags, Chanel flaps and more. I have some spending money, but no where close to that much $$$$.

About 15 years ago, before my daughter was born I used to shop with a friend who came from a lot of money and married into even more money. A day of shopping would be a couple of H bags, Tiffany's or Cartier for earrings, and then Nordstrom for a pair of denims or shoes. I lived vicariously through her. It was amazing. But this was her reality.

So, I'm with you...this J or the Bolide will have to be my last new bag for several months, maybe sneaking in a much less expensive bag, from my hubby, for my combined holidays/celebrations.

Thank you, again!

Hi everyone!
Quick question- Anyone who owns a Jypsiere, do you worry at all about the glazing across the top or at the bottom on the back side where it rubs against clothing? Any cracking or major glaze wear and tear?
Thank you!
I treat my bags like a sailor would and have not had any cracking issues on the glazing. She's a rock solid bag. My only suggestion is that if you do go with a Jyps get the smaller size as they are quite heavy on the shoulder and if you want to keep it's shape go with Togo...I don't know if they make an Epsom version but that will keep it's shape longer too. After a while the Clemence leather folds on the bottom...you may not like that but it is the characteristic of that leather and the bag design.
