Just Curious - is Epi Leather not as popular as Canvas?

I am not going to reread this thread... but it’s pretty simple: Épi leather is more expensive and barely branded, which does not make it a preferred option for first time LV buyers (who are often drawn to monogram). I feel that most pre-loved buyers also prefer Monogram.
Very true. I like both the Epi and Monogram for the reasons most like them. Just so surprised by the difference in the pre-owned prices.

I have owned an epi cosmetic pouch for at least a couple of years now. Used very sparingly but I can tell if I used it heavily, it would have noticeable corner wear. It's got very minimal wear now but to be fair it has also sat in the dust bag for months at a time out of the 2 years I've had it. So if I bought an epi bag, I would probably buy used. I wouldn't fret so much at the wear.

LV Canvas bags are iconic. They are what make LV LV. I also think a lot of people buy it because it’s easily recognizable, light weight and extremely durable.

I love the Epi leather too for its understatement and structured look. But I did have a bad experience with it. The coating of an Epi wallet I have begun to peel off, after being used in hot climate for a few months. I don’t now exactly what it is, but it looks like sort of white/semi-transparent film. It peeled off gradually, so you could see the residuals of the white film here and there on my wallet for quite a while...

I think Epi leather is an early version of the saffiano leather, which is pressed calf leather with water-resistance wax coating. Some may argue that the calf leather used may not be the best quality, because end users can hardly tell the difference after all the pattern pressing and coating.

Congrats on your Epi purchase ! Which piece did you buy ? Dont second guess your self ! lol . I have an Epi Electric Alma bb and love it . It has held up so well . I do not baby that bag at all . It literally looks brand new . Not a scratch on it . . I just think leather bags always look more lux than canvas . Canvas these days are losing my attention .
Enjoy your new purchase !
I know your comment is from some time ago but I am looking at buying a preloved Alma BB Epi Electric in noir and was wondering how yours has held up and why you prefer it over the Epi version. Thanks in advance.

To be honest it was their canvas products that drew me to their brand and their canvas items is what seperates them from other brands. I see most brands sell only leather and few like gucci that sells canvas as well but doesn't hold a candle to LV in my opinion. If I wanted leather I'd go with other brands but not a big fan of leather which is why I stick to canvas and Louie.

I was never drawn to Epi leather...I prefer Empreinte. My husband kindly bought me a bag this past Christmas, and he prefers understated bags. He chose the Epi Neo Noe, and it's really beautiful. I am surprised by how much I love the Epi leather! And people DO recognize it as LV -- I have had it happen twice. Both times, the comment was that it was nice to see an LV that was "different". So, there's that. :) But the above posters are right. It is not nearly as recognizable as canvas. I don't anticipate many wear and tear issues as I have a decent collection of bags to rotate, and I am very kind to my bags. :)

"I love epi leather! Yes there is a risk of creases in the bag, but Empreinte leather has it's risk as well with embossing issues, and some monogram bags with glazing issues."

You are right about Empreinte leather. My wallets have held up nicely, but there is definitely softening of the embossing on my Artsy. The pattern is clearly there, you can see it. It doesn't bother me. But it might bother others not to have crisp, clean imprints. Anything imprinted that rubs against the body during use can have this issue.
