I could be wrong, but I believe the USD prices fluctuate based on the EUR>USD currency exchange rate. I had been stalking the Diane messenger before the PI and the USD price changed slightly almost everyday while the EUR price remained the same. In terms of PI, I’d go by the EUR prices only.

One night last week I wrote down all of the EUR prices in a spreadsheet. I haven’t had time to update it with the current EUR prices but I’d be happy to update it and share the list here. It’ll be interesting to see the % of increase across their various products.

PS - I ordered the Diane Messenger!!!!! I should have her next week!!!:yahoo:
Congratulations! Which color/leather did you order?

Excellent observation. I noticed variations in prices over the past year or so — the currency exchange makes sense. But the black and horizontal bull skin Lectoure tote prices jumped a lot. I think a price increase was responsible for that.

Congrats on the messenger! What color???:girlsigh:

Hi all. I looked up the current prices today on the JD website and here are all the changes. (I hope it's ok for me to post all the prices like this!)

All the bags increased about 100-300 EUR each. This was a very reasonable 4-6% on most bags. The only anomaly was the Fontelie - that seems to have no PI.

Of the 4 pochettes, only 2 increased in price: the Diane Mini Pochette (phone pouch on strap) and the Saint Clair Mini Pochette. The Saint Clair mini pochette went up a lot ... 300 EUR! From 2100 to 2400 EUR. That works out to 14% increase, which is really high (unless my math is wrong?? Which is certainly possible lol!)

No other items increased in price: SLGs, jewelry, bag straps, key charms, perfume, etc.

Overall, this seems to be a quite reasonable increase (in my opinion). At least, much more reasonable that other certain popular brands!

Thank you, that's very kind and dedicated to the JD cause :flowers:

The resale market is irrelevant to pricing. They are looking at where they see their brand fitting into the competitive landscape and of course on their costs. JD has costs at the higher end (better materials, more labor intensive, no economies of scale like Chanel or H, lower volume, etc.).

I understand the pricing being irrelevant to resale, but was thinking about from the purchasing side and those that will say spending $7K on a bag with less resale value than Chanel, Hermes, and LV isn't worth it. I totally understand their higher end costs too as I visited them in Paris and it's clear the quality is through the roof. I guess my comment was just based on other people coming onto this thread and saying that a company with no history shouldn't be charging so much for bags, especially with no resale market history. My hope is for JD to remain in the game for years to come, hence my concern they price themselves too high.
I'm agreeing with everyone.

I think resale prices will become important. I think resale is the reason Chanel and H can charge respective overly high prices (and increases) and people are still queueing.

For the moment, the single Paris store only availability/ exclusivity is key.

I understand your position. Your points are valid. I, too, thought the bags were priced too high at first. But then I realized —

They pay their craftspeople fair and competitive wages, use the best materials, and try to minimize marketing costs and overhead.

The bags are pricey, but JD doesn’t mark up the bags 10x like the big box brands do. To buy JD, I believe a client has to be thoughtful, want under-the-radar quality, and appreciate what the company stands for (by hiring out of work craftspeople released by LVMH during Covid). They also invest in training a new generation of craftspeople to create bags the old-fashioned way.

JD is into heritage and keeping the craft a craft, not just a fast fashion moneymaker. The popular brands have caved to the money-making idols.

When I buy JD, I believe I’m buying a forever bag.

Exactly. JD is the opposite of fashion (which is not at all the same as unfashionable).

Agreed. I think they can bypass the flippers if they continue to make their bags unparalleled in quality from their major competitors (many R is totally aware of).

Fashion people (often non-consumers) are more interested in trends, changes, sensationalism and celebs. The Vogue index has LV #1 and Gucci at #2. That tells us more about who reads Vogue, nothing about sales as I know for a fact Gucci is quiet ATM. . Chanel at #4 (+1) and H at #6 (+1) for Winter 23/24. That's not a reflection of sales but fashion people engaging in 'keeping-up' they can only monitor/mine data from their own site (it's also a protection racket, as it forces those companies to engage/partner with Vogue or slip down the rankings).

Agree with all of this.

As fun as it is to score a ridiculous deal on TRR they are also doing a disservice to quiet luxury brands. Moynat and Duclos are so undervalued there, even what they are doing to the watch resale is shameful. They don't see "vintage" as valuable unless it was an iconic runway piece - I can rant about their pricing all day so I will stop.

I'll be curious to see what JD puts out this coming year.

The Vogue index has LV #1 and Gucci at #2.
Both of those houses offer an insane number of bag models/sizes/variations and most of them anyone can buy online. Not that there is anything necessarily wrong with that, but it's almost just incidental that they sell, among zillions of other items, the same end-product that JD offers, just made by the thousands in factories instead of by the handful, by hand in an atelier.

Agreed about the nature of the "index" (and its limited ability to convey anything meaningful to someone who's contemplating buying a JD bag!).

Justifying 7300€ for a machine stitched bag from a new designer... :confused1:
A quick reality check everyone: "similar" *cough cough* Celine 16 mini is 2800€ and Celine 16 mini clutch is 1700€ on their EU website today. And keep in mind, that is ALREADY blown beyond any proportion vs their labor and material cost.
