Beautiful! What shade of red is this in real life? My computer is showing a deep red but I've seen other photos of this bag online where it appears to be more of a tomato red.
Yeah I had a hard time capturing the color - it’s tricky. The name is Coquelicot which is poppy and that is pretty accurate (the photos on their website are too).

Also because of the leather tanning there’s an almost a translucent quality to the color so it does change a bit in the light. I can say that it is very beautiful and warm.

Is the closure (hardware) fairly easy? Or is it fussy?
It’s actually brilliant - you push the arrow down into the surround, which has a spring that gently snaps it into the groove on the arrow so it’s secure. To open just pinch the side of the base of the surround. (If you look closeup at the photo on the website with the bag laying on its back you can see the detail of the hardware).

It is extremely easy to open without having to actually touch the leather, which is great, and it is very secure.

My recent acquisition. (Ironically, that scarf was originally purchased to wear with my very first Moynat bag.)

Bagnut1, I always appreciate and value your bag knowledge and opinions. That being said —
Between you, tPF, and me, I’d like to ask your Diane messenger pros and cons to date. Of course, the bag is beautiful.:girlsigh:I’d like to know it’s usability, how the leather is wearing, do you feel the need to baby it, and if you’d buy it again. Any info you can provide would be wonderful. Thank you!:flowers:

I don't know for certain who designed the sofa but it doesn't seem like a Liaigre design to me. It leans more towards Vladimir Kagan.

And, yes, I immediately thought of old Cesare Paciotti when I saw the hardware on the Diane bag!
Thank you for the Vladimir Kagan suggestion  was also thinking Pierre Augustin Rose.

Re the JD bag, I think the bag hardware is so eye catching that it presupposes a more minimal style of dress and jewelry. JMO of course. Ornate hw might rule the bag out for me, but I really would like to see it in person as well as visit the JD atelier

Oh, dear @Sourisbrune, you know I'm always more than happy to opine here! ;)

I really love this bag. The style is under the radar and the amazing hardware gives it that extra special little pop that makes it, IMO, effortlessly switch between dressy and casual. (I haven't been to the opera this season yet but it will probably be going with me shortly, likely with the strap switched for a twilly.) Technically it accommodates my organizer "system" (Fourbi 20), but it's tight and I have to move stuff from the outer pockets. So I instead use my minibag organizer, which is a medium Prada cosmetic pouch that takes up significantly less room than the Fourbi.

The leather is fantastic. I don't have H original Barenia but I did have a Moynat bag in the natural cognac color (and recall the purple-ish and blue versions that Ramesh was doing there back when). This has a similar hand and "glow." I admire the variations in the leather and haven't babied it (though I am generally reasonably careful with my bags). So it has acquired a few spots but they blend in over time.

I am trying to schlep less stuff around in general so this was a good size for me to buy - it's smaller than my typical daybags (mostly 35s) but it still holds all of my essentials. I also thought about the version with the handle, but I am all set with top handle bags. I feel this was a perfect addition to my current collection for size/color/style. I also think it's worth the price - the leather and construction are total luxury, as is the hardware that Ramesh is so expert at!

Thank you for your detailed thoughts on your new acquisition. This is very helpful.

Does the Diane messenger bag come in different sizes? What size did you get?

On their website it seems like there is only one size for the Diane messenger bag but then there is different pricing for different colours of the bag? It seems to range between $4,700 and $5,000 for the same size of bag.

You are welcome. There is only one size of the messenger (at least currently). The price difference is based on the color of hardware (same leather regardless of color).
