I am just about ready to pull the trigger on my first JD bag---but am having trouble deciding between the Diane messenger and the Diane L20 or L26. I am looking for a day to evening (not formal, but going out for a nice dinner bag) that I would take on my numerous travels, and I truly think the messenger or the L 26 in terms of size would be best for me---but I'm wondering if the handle on the L26 makes it very formal for a daytime bag (plus I'm not a small person so am worried about the handle sticking up too much into my "girls" if the bag is worn cross-body).
Am looking for any insight you have!
Many thanks in advance!

I would think a messenger bag..... it's sort of in between L20 and L26 from capacity stand point as well as weight of the bag. Plus it's somewhat more universal (not too dressy and not too casual)... just my opinion
Agree with this ..mostly because I'm having the same dilemma as @kipp and I believe I've narrowed it down to the Diane messenger as well (so thank's for the confirmation @YGR !)

I homed in on the messenger right away. At the time I already had several Ks and various top handle bags in different sizes. I felt like I was ready for something a bit less fussy, and you are right that when worn crossbody the handle can get in the way.

For me the Diane messenger is still incredibly elegant and transitions seamlessly between dressed up/down. I think the style is also better for travel than the handled versions.

Good luck deciding!

Thanks so much, @bagnut1. I also have several Kelly bags/Bolides/Birkins, but TBH my everyday knock around bag is a Chanel 19 which I love, mostly because of the pocket in the back for my phone and that it works so well crossbody. This JD bag that I intend to buy will not be an everyday bag (unless I'm traveling) because I think it is too nice to wear for grocery shopping, to the gym, etc...
So your thoughts are well-taken.
Next issue is color and leather---so difficult! I have a couple of Hermes fauve barenia bags that have gotten very, very dark (almost black). On the one hand the heritage leather appeals to me very much---on the other, it would be nice to have a bag that doesn't change color (patina, I don't mind) so very much. But the tempo leather seems a lot like Hermes epsom (and as carefree as it is, it seems like a waste for a JD bag.)
Has anyone here bought a tempo leather bag?
It's too bad that the messenger isn't made in the harmonie leather...

you can always ask them if that's an option.

I read someone on reddit who placed an SO for a Diane L26 or L20 without the metal brace hardware. one would think they wouldn't allow it because it's part of the design. and so maybe a change of leather, which is less of a trouble for them, might be allowed.

The way JD describes tempo leather on Instagram is "even grain reminiscent of 'two-way corking', Tempo leather is reminiscent of vintage leather."
At some point, I was considering Diane L 20 in tempo..... Per my email communication with JD, they explained that 'the fiber density on the Heritage leather is slightly lighter and softer, and the stiffer the leather is, the tighter the density". Tempo leather is slightly heavier then Heritage or Harmony.

@bagnut1 and others who own a Diane messenger, please excuse the following questions if they’ve been asked and answered. What fits in your bag? Does it seem spacious enough for key fobs, card cases, AirPods, and more, without playing Tetris with your things?
I admittedly don’t carry much, so the answer for me is yes! Holds my phone (all my cards are on the back of my phone), lip balm, sunglasses case, occasional tampon, keys and Kleenex. But much more than that and you may be playing Tetris.

For me it's a good "in between" bag - a bit smaller than my typical daybags but larger than my smaller weekend running around bags (but it works for that too without looking like luggage).

My regular organizer is a Fourbi 20, which is a bit too tall/bulky for the DM. So I switch to the smaller organizer (a Prada zipper pouch).

I will post some photos for reference a bit later.

This past week I finally received my Diane L30. The delivery was quite the ordeal, which if they follow through led JD to establish a relationship with FedEx.

If anyone reading this is considering a total purchase valued over $5k USD I would first inquire as to the shipping carrier. I was completely blown away, as 4 weeks earlier DHL delivered in 3 business days the Ostrich L20 with NO asks for additional information from me. Also note, I regularly have high value parcels shipped to me in the US from overseas via DHL/FedEx/USPS with limited asks for information.

The L30 required an invasive amount of information, and then an intrusive amount of paperwork, which included my US 1040, completely unacceptable IMHO, as I joint file and don't think I should have had to supply my DH's personal information to receive a handbag.

Ultimately, the 7 days I spent satisfying DHL's intrusion into my taxes and identity, when they had just delivered a bag valued at twice this Diane L30, was beyond frustrating.

I would like to say that seeing the L30 erased the bad taste left by DHL but it did not. IMHO the Diane L30 has some design misses and it did not scratch the itch I had thought it would.

I will get some photos uploaded soon for you all to see.
