I have an appraisal for both of the items that are getting scheduled. Had to get one done for the diamond cocktail ring since it didn't come with any papers. Got a full report on everything and insurance thought it was great. Still had the appraisal for my ering/wedding bands.

The insurance company told me two things; if you don't have the receipt, then you must have an appraisal, and also that if the item is worth over a certain amount it must be insured separately. They also advised me to get photos of me wearing all my jewellery.

I am interested in getting insurance on my ring. Can anyone help me with questions I should ask? I have been reading horror stories and I want to be protected. Also is it better to get insurance through my home owners policy or an outside insurance company like Chubb?

^For me, it is better to have it through my homeowners policy. However, mine only goes up to $1500 coverage, so I had to get a supplemental policy through Jewelers Mutual. Check and see how much your homeowners policy covers. Usually there is a low maximum on jewelry. Then you can decide from there based on the value of your jewelry.

I live in Japan and he best insurance policy on valuable items that I found is this:

Coveage of theft and damage in Japan only. premium is 1.8% of insured amount.

I know it must be cheaper ones in the US , but is this still okay or too expensive?

How are the items replaced if lost/stolen? Full replacement value or cash settlement? Coverage is only applicable in Japan? Is the policy void if you lost it outside of japan?

The payment will be cash settlement. It is only covered in Japan, which is not too big of a deal coz I wont travel overseas w/ my ering.
However the folloing conditions are not covered:

Lost or damage by negligence
Lost by misplacement/mysterious disapperance

Hello! I am wondering if anyone has advice on insuring my E ring. When I bought the ring, the SA at tiffany's told me to make sure the policy would cover a replacement ring from tiffany's and not a generic ring. I currently am in the middle of switching my policy to another company and my insurance agent found a policy with a really good company that will cut me a check for the price paid for the ring if it lost, stole etc.

I am wondering if this a good policy? Especially with the price of diamonds going up. If my ring got stolen 5 years from now, I don't think i'd be able to replace it will the same thing.

Do people have similar policies or do you guys have different types. My old policy claims that they will replace it with the same ring from tiffany's with the same specs.

Thanks in advance!

Who is it with? My policy is standalone through Chubb. It's just jewelry. And my paperwork dictates brand and specs of all of my pieces as do all of my appraisals. I get a check cut for the insured value to me and I am free to replace with what I want or not at all.

I find Chubb more costly than insuring my pieces as a schedule alongside my home insurance. I use AAA and schedule all pieces.

You'll have to update your policy every year as your ring value goes up...Tiffany's should be able to give you an updated letter every year.

Chubb won't insure my ring as on a stand alone policy (I have talked with 5 different agents already)

Looking for an alternative to Homeowners coverage.

I found this company while researching.

Any thoughts?

TIA
