What’s the carbon footprint for this 3 minute joyride?
Had it been all men would there be “internal audio” leaked?
:rolleyes::rolleyes:
This stuff is so gross. Do better with your riches than rocket launching. Jeff & Elon..

While I am not impressed with today's little 3-minute jaunt, there is a lot of impressive stuff going on with SpaceX, Blue Origin. the ESA and, to a lesser extent, Virgin Galactic. Virgin Galactic is the one most focused on space tourism, that's my understanding. SpaceX (and I think Blue Origin) are making some really impressive strides with reusable rockets. DH has a good friend who is a tech guy, a super space nerd, who follows every bit of the advancements being made and he's blown away by what SpaceX has achieved so far.

Reliable, reusable rockets are incredibly important to the future of space flight and to the future of science and technology, making it easier, less expensive and more sustainable for scientists, government, and companies for everything from launching satellites to conducting scientific research to preparing for an eventual colony on the Moon or even Mars. Reusable rockets also help reduce space debris, because you really don't want to have a collision with a giant piece of metal in space if you can avoid it so the fewer large metal objects floating around up there, the better for everyone.

Are all of these companies sharing their findings and scientific research? I mean… those 3 dudes egos are pretty huge. And these seem like a rich tourist jaunt.

I could give a rats behind about living on Mars. We have enough problems with the current planet (IMO of course)

Eventually, we have to get off this rock lol. Eventually. At some point, an asteroid is going to have Earth's name on it or there will be a massive volcanic eruption that will send the planet into a volcanic winter, like during the Toba catastrophe that occurred about 70,000 years ago and came close to wiping out the entire human race. Then, in 536 AD, there was a huge Iceland volcano eruption, covering most of the planet in a fog of clouds and ash for a year or more, hardly any sunlight filtering through, causing crops to fail, massive famine, plague, and political upheaval. In many places, half the population died. So, yeah, eventually, I think we have to plan for something like that and taking baby steps now might one day insure the survival of the entire human race. Just IMHO.

does anyone care about this? not me. they're going for a ride. are we supposed to be impressed? I guess so
Apparently some do. CBS Morning was on when I was in the gym and they devoted a lot of time to it. I watched Gayle King get out of the capsule, kiss the ground and hug Bezos. And Katy Perry sang "What a Wonderful World" while up there. :rolleyes:

I expect that we will go the way of the dinosaurs.

They get a ton of publicity but Bezos does a lot of philanthropy, and says he will give away most of his fortune in his lifetime. (Im not a particular fan, but was curious enough to do a quick search). Lauren Sanchez isn’t an idiot and if she’s happy with how they present themselves, IMO, it’s all good.

ETA: I could care less about any space endeavors :)

Like they say, you can't take it with you.

Sure, I ll believe it when I see it.
meanwhile, Makenzie has been donating non stop to causes that are close to my heart.
Bye, bye, bye.

If a massive asteroid hits the earth one day, yeah, probably. Hopefully, Bruce Willis and crew will be there to save the day lol.
