So now, they want to send the garbage to space????????

I’m so grateful to the many pioneering women who, for generations, have paved the way for others to achieve their rightful roles. I’ve always been incredibly proud of women’s achievements.

That said, 11 minutes in space in a fully autonomous vehicle feels more like a very expensive and superfluous tour, or an ad for Bezos’ Blue Origin, than real progress. It brings to mind those companies that promote themselves as “women-owned businesses,” only for you to find out that a man is actually calling the shots. It really pisses me off. Sorry for the rant.

The way humans have destroyed nature here and are now finding such ✨innovative ✨ ways to spread the pollution into the wider universe should be studied. Never in the history of existence has one species been so focused on absolute destruction.

This vanity space tourism project is just hammering home the point that we're in a weird timeline where vanity trumps logic, and the environmental cost of this stupid flight is ignored because the positive PR they're getting is somehow more important.

You're far more diplomatic than I am! Loved every word of your post. :)

If it makes you feel better, it feels like People and ET are the only outlets crowing about how amazing / ground breaking this is.

I like Emily Ratajkowski better bc she was one of the first (at least that I read) who spoke up

I said upthread that I didn’t think Sanchez was an idiot, but this seems so poorly timed, tone deaf, and just so “let them eat cake” with everything else in the world today :(

@limom , I don’t think that I made it clear upthread that yes, I did and do agree with you that Mackenzie Scott is incredible…

This whole space thing has really rubbed me the wrong way. I feel the whole almost bimbotic charade has set women in STEM back with this 'participation' award style display. Crew? They are passengers as many others have said before me.

I think of all the times I've had to deal with misogyny and sexism in my STEM career, and these women waltz in thinking they're doing something great. All they're doing, in my opinion, is giving men another excuse not to take us seriously.

Basically, they all appeared to ride a giant phallic symbol for a few minutes. Nothing new in their world.

Some of the online memes are hilarious. As for Bezos being domiciled in FL, it makes a lot of sense. I've had layovers at the Seattle airport and noticed that most of the people dress like they're survivalist camping off the grid. Hard to see Lauren doing that. Since professional athletes and celebrities have always attracted lots of women throwing themselves at them, I think Jeffy and other billionaires are likely accustomed to aggressive attention. Certainly Lauren is no shrinking violet and probably keeps an eagle eye on any "threats" . As for the all women space crew passenger log, who cares? Blue Origin offers a minutes long ride to anyone who can pay. Like an expensive roller coaster ride. You don't drive the capsule, you don't have to calculate anything, just sit there. And the matching body con "uniforms"? Please. But whatever. Bezos has the bucks to do anything he wants, if it made him happy, good for him. It does make one wonder how over the top their wedding will be.

With all due respect, we should all care and none of us should be happy that he's wasting precious resources treating the planet as if it's his personal SIMS world.

These little "rollercoaster rides" (perfect descriptor, by the way) cost all of us a lot. How much water and energy is wasted on each trip? How much pollution dumped into our air?

Has this been linked here before? It makes for interesting reading. We should all care. We should all call it out. This stuff needs to be better regulated. The damage being done cannot be undone. Water scarcity is already a huge problem in many parts of the world. They're actively making it worse.

JMO and I don't mean to sound argumentative. I'm just deeply upset at how the planet is being treated. Bezos is a big part of the problem here.

Edit: Sorry, I just searched and found that @880 had already posted this article yesterday.
