I wish he would do a bridge line - although even that would not be affordable. I just would like some access to one of his designs. Regular people might even appreciate it more than billionaires who can afford everything and buy everything.

There were JAR Paris earrings (floral design in aluminum or gold) offered previously at Bergdorf Goodman when they first launched the JAR Paris perfumes at BG. They also sold similar commemorative JAR Earrings during the JAR exhibit in London some years ago. These were about USD1,000-2,000 per pair.

^ oh, I didn't know those were from the perfume launch! I have seen those a few times and was curious as to why there seem to be more than a few floating around out there. Thanks!

Thank you but I am by no means an expert :blushing:.

Off the top of my head, I think some of the jewelers that are on par with JAR today include James de Givenchy (I am absolutely in love with his pieces for Taffin), Anna Hu (her craftsmanship is amazing, she is being called the "new JAR" and is the current favorite jeweler of Oprah and Madonna, one of her pieces is on my Christimas wishlist :D) and some would say perhaps Viren Bhagat, the "JAR of India".

In my humble opinion, JAR designs were truly unique and special maybe 10-15 years ago, but there have been so many talented, innovative and creative jewelers that have emerged since then. In the past, people would say you could immediately spot a JAR piece for its uniqueness but I do not think the same would hold true today.

Also, Rosenthal and Jeannet have become very selective (rightfully so) over who to sell to because there were reports they wanted to avoid the type of clients who don't appreciate jewelry but only want to buy JAR to be able to boast to their friends that they "own JAR". Kind of like people who don't care about Hermes and the quality, but want to buy a birkin just so they can tell people they own a birkin LOL.

I have a few personal anecdotes from buyers/owners of JAR but am reluctant to share on a public forum but one piece of information I can share is they have exceptionally good lawyers :D. Their lawyers at one point threatened to sue a printer in New York for reprinting (w/out permission) the famous & coveted JAR book that is sold (if you are lucky enough to find it!) for several thousands today.

Btw, this pair of earrings just sold at Christie's the other day for USD650,000. This was part of the Ellen Barkin collection sold also at Christie's a few years ago and has been re-auctioned again. It originally sold for 710,000 and the other day sold for 650,000. It's interesting how it sold for less than the previous auction.

:queen:You are most certainly an expert, thank you for that addendum - I'll look into those jewelers!

I remember reading about JAR in W magazine in the '80s... he has fragrances out now too. I can barely afford those (they are made of the highest ingredients) and they are also extremely exclusive!!
At least mortals like us are allowed to enter his perfume shop, which offers an experience like entering a jewellery store.

Thanks for the added information!

A friend of mine has two of his fragrances from BG and gave me a tiny decant of Diamond Waters - it's a very pretty floral - I wish I could try all of them but I'm afraid to fall in love.

It astonishes me that he will not put any of his fragrances into wider distribution though.

In addition to the gold geranium leaves, I have seen colored aluminum geranium leaves as well as aluminum rose petal clip earrings at BG as well. They are unlike anything I've ever seen - but I will warn you, they are all on the large side (as is those topaz earrings of Ellen Barkin's in real life)!

I am not surprised though, considering how tight he controls the distribution of his jewelleries. At one point I was tempted by Jardenia, then I talked myself into senses :amuse:. Btw, Serge Lutens is one of my favorite perfume makers too, the Borneo (I suppose) bottle on your avatar is lovely.

You are the first person to recognize the Lutens bottle in my avatar. My avatar is not Borneo though - no matter how pretty the yellow Borneo bottle may be, the scent is too impossible for me to like. :)

I have also managed to not succumb to the JAR fragrances. They are so unique and truly unusual but I refuse to pay more than $700 to own one.
