Is Rolex a good move up from Tag?

Swanky - you mean there are a lot of styles? Seemed like the watches pretty much were the same other than choice of dial color, diamonds/no diamonds and oyster or jubilee bracelet. I went into a Rolex store (they only sell Rolexes). But, maybe she just didnt show me the other choices becaus they'd be out of my budget.

I am drawn to the omega and will visit my local shops to have a look at that one. I really want a two-tone so it can go with my silver and gold hw bags! Don't know if that omega will look good as a TT, though. I love it as it is!

Definitely go try some on and see what works for you. Also, take pictures if they let you. We can get a better idea of what works and also drool at the eye candy!

DF is 1000% a millgaus guy! He just doesn't know it yet cause I haven't had him with me hoping I could surprise him! He loves orange (thus our unusual choice for our wedding. People keep giving me that "why?" look when I say orange). Ive looked all over and not too many watches with orange that is subtle enough to be classic. But we decided no wedding presents and go crazy on honeymoon and buy our gifts then but I may do something still but not extravagant.

The watches I have been attracted to are styles like the aqua terra and tag carrera and cartier roadster. So really sleek all stainless designs and no diamonds (I want my ering center stage but maybe that will change in future). I'm also torn on the quartz vs automatic thing. I think for a lazy person like me, quartz might be the answer but eh. Ill look more into it when i actually feel the urge to buy something for myself. DF also doesn't like me in watches. My wrist measures about 5.5 inches so it's small and all the watches ive liked look ridiculous on. I really wanted a michael lots for fun but they looked like it was wearing me! I guess I'll settle for the love bracelet... Haha

Have you decided for yourself and DF kohl?

The Milgauss sounds perfect for your DF! The watch is REALLY beautiful. When I first saw it in the store six months ago, it was  It looks super classy and has such a hint of color without looking too trendy. Too bad my DF wants a date. The Milgauss is a good 1k or more less than the DJ II haha. Are you going to get him the LE green sapphire quartz one or just the normal one? And where are you guys thinking about honeymooning???

My wrist is 5.5 also. I tried on a few midsize watches and I like the look, but they might look less ridiculous on me because I am tall (I'm not sure how tall you are - maybe look in a full length mirror to see the look overall?) Personally, I think I would get the balloon bleu (more whimsical and feminine looking) but my DF is totally stuck on the idea of matching His and Her watches!! And I want to get him what he wants, not what I want!

I am beginning to save for the DJ II black face with stick dials. I hope to have all of it saved by end of next fall and maybe I can give it to him as an early wedding gift/xmas/anniversary gift (our anniversary is close to xmas time). Or should I wait to give it to him on our wedding day? Hmm, decisions, decisions.

BTW, I asked DF if I could get a love bracelet instead of a wedding band, and he said he'd think about it :graucho:

whoops - By the way, automatic watches aren't that fussy!! If you wear watches nearly every day, you don't have to worry about it dying on you. If it does, all it takes is like 10 winds in the morning before you put it on!

I bought my DF a Frederique Constant watch for his birthday last year, and since it's automatic it is a bit fast (by about 5 min). I like how quartz movements are more precise but there is just something so alluring about mechanical movements! I think they are definitely more sophisticated.

Anyway, I think you should get your DF the Milgauss if you think it's the perfect watch for him. He might be a little upset with you at first but for only a second! I would imagine he would appreciate the thoughtful gift!

Hi, I am trying to convince you to get the Rolex. When I first wanted to buy one, I was around 27/28 (too young or old, you decide). But my friend against it (his comment is too offending to be exposed here)and the price went from RM9,000.00 to RM16,000.00 by the time I 'dont care' bought it that was few years later, regret with excruciating painssss in my heart that I have wanted few years. It is one of the most reliable watch I had ever had plus so reliable and durable that I wear it everywhere I go (as long as the place is safe) except inside water, cos I dont swim. But I work for a 6 star resort and our guests wear Rolex/Cartier and swam in the sea and pool without any problem at all! But I rule Cartier out cos my cartier gave me problem right from the start! If you could, buy a watch from a watch maker not a designer that also make watch.

Okay, I've been wearing my Tag for years and it's done really well for me. That said, I'm really interested in an upgrade and want a two-tone watch. I dress very casually most of the time and need a watch that is worry-free and that i can wear anywhere (parks, beach, etc). I also need it have a good amount of water resistance (around 100m) which I think wipes out Cartier, sadly. So, does anyone have suggestions? I'm hoping to keep the price to around $4500 if I can (if I get a Rolex, I know it'd be more and I can live with that). I have my eye on this Rolex but my husband says it looks like an older person's watch (those who own it, please forgive his comment!) What do you all think of this watch? I would consider sticking with Tag but I don't think there's a two-tone model that I like at the moment. My husband is too against the J12 so that's out too (lovely watch but he prefers the traditional watch brands if you kwim)

I knew it was for him the second I saw it! I think it was the black face with orange dials I saw that I loved for him? I saw the green and the color contrast was more than what I was comfortable with for him if that makes sense? I want this to be something he can wear when he is 80 when we can't tell the time anymore without glasses haha! But I have less than 3-4 months to save and get it for him. I think you should give your DF the present on the wedding day in the morning so he can wear it the day of. That's what my plan is. Whatever I get no matter what I want his brother to give it to him the morning before he sees me.

I'm about 5'4. Maybe I just have to get used to wearing a bracelet or something on my wrist again? I haven't had anything there for a while. My dad and I think DF are both more in favor of the Love bracelet than a watch for me. haha

Honeymoon is in Hawaii most likely? We both want it to be somewhere we haven't been which kills a lot of destinations for us. I've been lucky enough to have traveled a lot and so has he so between the two of us and typhoon season, Hawaii made sense for reliable weather. However, his dad is making a heavy push for us to go Europe. But i'm more eh? because I don't want to fly that far. haha I'm so lazy! I want to sit on a beach and rot, therefore hawaii won. haha

How sweet! The thing is, I won't be marrying my DF for another 1.5 years, and I'm kind of antsy with presents! I get so excited giving gifts, I can't wait! Maybe I'll slow down my saving so I get the watch for him later.

If you can't save enough in time for the wedding, you can always give him the watch on his bday or an anniversary! Maybe just get him the wallet for the wedding day so you "abide" by his words but save the gift for another time?

The love bracelet is really nice, especially since I know you've been wanting it for a long time. I hope you get it ;)

Hawaii sounds really nice. We were planning on going this summer but I've got a summer externship that is in the way! I'm the opposite - I hate the sun. My pale skin can't handle it (haha). I'm a city gal and not a beach girl. My DF and I have been to Europe already but I love Europe and it'll be our first time visiting the country as a couple. I want to explore the crooked streets of Rome, take a siesta in Barcelona and go shopping in Paris! But I think we'll end up just staying 1-2 weeks in one or two cities vs. visiting a bunch in a limited time. Choosing which one(s) will be hard!

It's not a matter of saving up so much as it is that he will kill me. haha! Like not speak to me and be sad all day. Just the other night I got him the temperpedic pillow and he was happy but sad at me because we technically said no gifts.

Ooooh well can't honeymoon in Europe without the South of France! Spain and France get my vote for locations for you! They were my favorite. But then again I was in Rome in winter so I think it might be different in summer.

hahaha My dad gets all angry about it too and opinionated! Like, oh! That's just a toy! Get a REAL watch! haha

I decided to take some pics of my mom's quintessential "old lady watch." It's the Lady's DateJust (26mm) TT 18kt yg with meteorite dial and diamonds. Excuse the scar - I guess I was an adventurous little kid!

I threw in a pic of the watch + ring for kicks!

That size actually really looks good on your wrist. And you are all types of two tone with your soleste!

Very nice!

although, it is not meteorite diamond dial. It is silver jubilee diamond dial

Meteorite from Mars, therefore it has its own characteristics for each finished piece made.
And I think it costs $850 more than silver jubilee dial
