Is it just me? So sick of Mini Bags

I like different bags for various uses.

My biggest issue is with the mini bags trend not the actual bags. I was out the house from 8am yesterday morning, to 1am this morning (went out after work). I only took my usual Loewe pouch (contains all the little stuff) iPad, pen/small paper notebook, umbrella, water bottle, keys and phone with me and I needed a 38cm bag.

I guess if someone drives everywhere and everything is in the car, fair enough. Some of us actually need a bag.

I also object to what are called minis and charged at full bag rate, eg. little drawstring pouch or a SLG with a cord is not a mini bag - they're just very expensive pouches on a string. A mini is a scaled-down model from a larger model (as in mini version). I hate the general public being conned by commerce - especially for 'cuteness'.
That! That is exactly my problem. I don‘t have a car (actually no drivers licence) and therefore my bag needs to accommodate my work stuff, necessities and potential grocery buys. And I don‘t want to lug two bags with me.

Strange how my mention of the maker of the Puzzle Bag was removed. Glad though that everyone knows which bag maker I meant. I have three Mini Puzzle Bags, and the Mini holds everything I need to carry. I do have one Small Puzzle Bag, which I haven't used yet, for times when I might want to carry more with me. Best of all, the Mini and the Small work beautifully crossbody, on the shoulder or handheld.

@Swanky,very strange, though. When I saw my post mentioning Loewe, it showed up as ‘s instead of as Loewe’s. I edited it to include Loewe’s again and it still showed up only as ‘s. Today it showed up with Loewe in red. There must be some logical explanation for this.

Loewe like many other brands generally defaults to a link on tPF (which will be red in dark mode). Maybe you were looking at tPF in a format where you couldn't see links?

Back on topic, or rather off, there are some aggressive comments in this thread (not related to the above). It's just bags, mini or not!! Outie :flowers:

You know, I was watching RHOBH Season 3 for kicks and giggles and saw two wives talking about "the bigger the bag, the smaller the butt."

I remember the days when a Speedy 25 looked kinda dinky and I regretted not buying a size up. Now the 25 seems like a sizable bag. It's amazing how the long, Continental wallets at Winners / Marshalls' languish for months, never bought up since we switched to ZCP-size and card case wallets.

There's certain bags I wish there was a schmedium size (Telfar, looking at you. I love the Small Shopping Bag, but it's slightly too small if I take anything beyond my iPhone, flat card case, LV RCP, Hermes Silk 'n' Change, facial mist and lippy; the Medium is just too big for anything beyond office days. An in-between is my ideal!) but I still love a good micro. My mind likes playing Tetris.

I’ll add the Hermes Evelyn to this list! The TPM is too small, while the PM is too big (despite the name; it’s ginormous when compared to the TPM). I long for a size between the two.

I don't like mini bags that are so mini you can't fit anything in them. Just doesn't really make sense.

I think different scenarios call for different types of bags. Like others said before me, if you go everywhere by car, then things like a water bottle, umbrella, snacks, etc. can be stored in the car no problem. Then a small bag (or no bag at all, if you have deep enough pockets!) is all you really need. But if you don't use a car, then a large(er) bag is really the only option, in my opinion. How large, though?

Typically I favor medium-sized bags, and I prefer slouchy ones so that when they're half empty they would take up as little space as possible under my arm. For instance, the bag I've been pretty much living out of these past few weeks is a Balenciaga Velo.

But I'm currently looking to downsize a bit, to add some smaller bags to my collection. One that would fit my essentials and that's it. So I'm not really against small bags. Just those that are ridiculously tiny.

I've always found micro bags as a weird trend - they're more like overpriced card holders IMO.
But a mini bag can be incredibly handy. I have several very small bags and they get regular use as I use them to carry my immediate necessities when I'm using my new computer bag (a trolley style to save my back and shoulders) and also for shorter outings. Sometimes it's enough to have a phone, a key, a small wallet or card holder and a lipstick with you, or at least where they are easy and fast to get into your hands when your other stuff is in a backpack or another larger bag.
Having said that, I would never pay luxury prices for a mini bag. All of mine are either preloved or sale finds and I've paid max 150 €.

I don't think needing bags is all marketing. I have to carry medication and my eyeglasses everywhere I go. Plus my wallet etc. I do not want to stuff all of that in my pockets. At the same time, where I live if you go into a store with a big bag you are bound to be followed by security. I stopped carrying big bags in places. A medium to small bag is all I carry. I do have a micro bag and I do not consider it apart of my bag collection. I put my jewelry in it when I am traveling. It fits into my larger purse.

I am sooo sick of mini bags. Yes some are super cute but they are just not practical. A lot of them you can barely fit a phone, lip gloss and keys. Most are 6-8 inches wide and are a pain to get in and out of.

Some of you might be saying "just don't buy them then". I get it and I don't. I guess my main pet peeve is that bag makers have stopped making small yet practical sized bags. I feel like a bag needs to be 11-13 inches wide. And you RARELY see that anymore. Or if you do the bag is 15" tall which does not work for me as I am very short. I miss the days of the 11x6 or 11x8 bag.

And there does not seem to be an end in site to what I thought was originally a trend of the moment. Most designers have mini and go immediately to large bags, skipping small/medium altogether. Some are pretty expensive bags considering they barely or don't hold essentials.

Don't even get me started on Micro bags!!

Is it me or is anyone else feeling the same way?
Preach! I like ”medium“ bags shoulder carry. I also think if I could just bring myself to downsize my zippy wallets I would be able to expand my horizons. That said, I’ve also figured out that I’m a casual bag person. Structured bags aren’t my jam no matter how I try.

I’m the opposite..I love structured bags, whatever I’m wearing..today I was in leggings and a leather jacket but carried a crocodile Birkin style bag.

But my favourite bag is my Laurus Prussia blue ostrich Geneva bag.

However, it’s tiny-it fits loads of credit cards and store cards and has a phone holder -all good.

But..nowhere for keys!
My previous phone was smaller and everything fitted, it was my perfect bag and has a detachable gold chain or an ostrich rigid handle.
But now it’s phone or keys-both of which I need, so I hardly use it.

I’m looking at the Sascha Petit in Prussia Blue crocodile, although it’s a bit casual for me..

It May be my next bag-I haven’t bought a bag since March..I always go back to my Jimmy Choo crocodile bag which is my Goldilocks size.

I sold my Dior raspberry crocodile mini bag as nothing fitted in it..
