Is it just me? So sick of Mini Bags

I’m definitely team medium bag. The cutest colors seem to mostly come in the mini sizes. Like, the larger sizes they’ll do in neutrals, but the color pops they do in minis, and I can’t really do mini bags except for a dinner out or something. I used to find this slightly frustrating, but upon changing my viewpoint, appreciate that there aren’t even more bags to tempt me. I’m tempted enough as it is! And even if it takes away some choices, we still live in an age of a ridiculous number of choices. Still, hundreds to choose from.

I am sooo sick of mini bags. Yes some are super cute but they are just not practical. A lot of them you can barely fit a phone, lip gloss and keys. Most are 6-8 inches wide and are a pain to get in and out of.

Some of you might be saying "just don't buy them then". I get it and I don't. I guess my main pet peeve is that bag makers have stopped making small yet practical sized bags. I feel like a bag needs to be 11-13 inches wide. And you RARELY see that anymore. Or if you do the bag is 15" tall which does not work for me as I am very short. I miss the days of the 11x6 or 11x8 bag.

And there does not seem to be an end in site to what I thought was originally a trend of the moment. Most designers have mini and go immediately to large bags, skipping small/medium altogether. Some are pretty expensive bags considering they barely or don't hold essentials.

Don't even get me started on Micro bags!!

Is it me or is anyone else feeling the same way?
I absolutely agree with you. I don't buy them either.
I feel like mini/micro bags are only for esthetic purposes, or else, a bag's actual purpose is to carry something, when people cannot fit anything inside them, the purpose of that bag is defeated then and then.

I love mini bags for certain uses! Most of the time I just want a chapstick, a few cards/ID and my key fob. I have kept my phone in a Bandoliere case with strap for years and I like to leave my purse in the console of my car when transporting my young kids in and out (2/3 of them need to be carried), or when exercising, so only a mini/micro bag will fit. Of course, this is because I have the rest of my car to store everything else that I might need, so I see how it does not make sense for someone who will not have a car nearby or who needs more things. Just to present the perspective of why this size is practical for some people aside from trends.
OP, which are you favorite brands? The puzzle is a great suggestion if you would consider it. I feel like there are quite a few bags in the 10-11" range still.

Teeny tiny little bags aren’t my thing it all - if my pocket holds more, or I have to carry the phone elsewhere I really can’t see the point. But each to their own etc etc. The frustration I have is that the mini/micro trend has edged out production of med/larger bags and reduced the choices available. Some sizes are just no longer in production, and so called “medium” bags often turn out to be actually quite small.

Totally agree. Many small to medium bags are rather mini and small bags for me. And large equals huge.
There are enough choices for true medium bags, but I also wish (or not - better for my wallet), that they would make some bag models in a decent medium size.
Especially as already the micro and mini bags start pretty expensive, the larger ones are getting incredibly expensive, e.g. think the large Celine 16…

I like different bags for various uses.

My biggest issue is with the mini bags trend not the actual bags. I was out the house from 8am yesterday morning, to 1am this morning (went out after work). I only took my usual Loewe pouch (contains all the little stuff) iPad, pen/small paper notebook, umbrella, water bottle, keys and phone with me and I needed a 38cm bag.

I guess if someone drives everywhere and everything is in the car, fair enough. Some of us actually need a bag.

I also object to what are called minis and charged at full bag rate, eg. little drawstring pouch or a SLG with a cord is not a mini bag - they're just very expensive pouches on a string. A mini is a scaled-down model from a larger model (as in mini version). I hate the general public being conned by commerce - especially for 'cuteness'.

I agree that size selection is so important and wish bag makers wouldn't stop making larger bags. Nanos are a mystery to me too and don't hold enough essentials for my needs.

Yet, I love my Loewe mini Puzzle bag and it fits more things than I expected:
  • Chanel flap card holder
  • Samsung Galaxy 21+ (which is pretty large)
  • Chloe 58mm sunglasses (wrapped in microfibre cloth, no case)
  • AirPod Pros
  • Longchamp Le Foulonné coin purse
  • Lipgloss
Definitely check out Loewe's Puzzle bag line (Great suggestion @MillStream!). Even the small Puzzle bag can hold so many things because of the leather's flexibility and durability with the rectangular form factor.
When I am tired of mini bags, I wear larger ones in my closet. But, there is still a use for a mini. In many NY restaurants, there is little room for a large bag, and it can be uncomfortable to sit with such a bag at your back or side.

i love the Loewe mini bag, but IMO its capacity is much greater than that of a conventional mini bag. I use it for travel during the day and carry it handheld for evening

agree with @Sferics that a mini bag can make me look chunkier. I think a larger bag can be more slimming and flattering

It's always funny when people think their personal response to a product is unique. Can you imagine the thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of people who don't use a mini? I can, and I don't care that they exist and that others like them.

I do think there are great small bags out there, so that's not a complaint I resonate with, particularly.

i think it is also funny how someone has to complain about a personal response to a product. it is a bag forum - for discussing this very thing! if it doesn't resonate with you then why bother??

Sigh. Honestly sometimes I feel like I could post that I think the sky is blue and people would disagree with me and argue about it

and you woul be right!

can totally relate to that! It's always reassuring to know that I'm not alone in my preferences. Although I must admit, those smaller bags are undeniably adorable. However, I've never been one to blindly follow trends. I usually stick to what I genuinely like, and that includes opting for medium-sized bags even when the small bag trend is all the rage. It's just that there seems to be a limited selection of larger bags compared to the abundance of mini bags.

i am team medium bag too! i bought a LV pochette accessoires for when i am out in crowds or places i really don't want to take my big LV bags and it is the hardest thing for me to use! my normal wallet is of course to big for it so then i have to decide what to take and what to leave and even my key fob won't fit if i leave it in the pouch so i have to remove it. then i have a mini panic attack wondering if i am going to need something i have to leave!

Strange how my mention of the maker of the Puzzle Bag was removed. Glad though that everyone knows which bag maker I meant. I have three Mini Puzzle Bags, and the Mini holds everything I need to carry. I do have one Small Puzzle Bag, which I haven't used yet, for times when I might want to carry more with me. Best of all, the Mini and the Small work beautifully crossbody, on the shoulder or handheld.
I see your post with the maker still there. Can’t you see it?
