I respect how the word “ghetto” may trigger outrage in some. BTW, the poster who used the word ghetto is African American and used it as descriptive, which she is free to do, not withstanding the hurt feelings. My feelings were not hurt. However, where is the outrage with Cardi B’s repetitive use of the N word in the clip posted by the OP? Cardi B devalues herself. The Hermes she carries is like putting lipstick on a pig, she is still vulgar no matter which way you cut it. On top of that, she is running around Beverly Hills demanding respect and admiration while her husband and cousin are flashing loaded guns at people on the street. She is just gross.

I don't think anyone has expressed outrage, just hurt over the use of the word. There is a hugeeeeee difference in the context "ghetto" was used here, using a word that describes the walled off communities minorities have been forced to live in and Cardi's, a black woman, use of a word with far different implications. (This topic is far more nuanced than I can express here).

Cardi has shown herself to be a smart businesswoman and savvy pop culture figure. She's earned her wealth and I love her spending it in any way she pleases. There were articles about how Bodak Yellow created new interest in louboutins from a new generation! Plus no one calls the people who post pictures of their birkin collections in these threads vulgar for doing so. It's fun! But this thread just shows me how right her comments were.

I’ve moved on from the word ghetto, I am outraged by Cardi B’s repetitive use of the N word. Is it Ok for her to use that word repeatedly because... fill in the blank. Her Birkin collection is fabulous, the fact she can afford it is amazing. She is also a beautiful and talented woman, but her post was vulgar.

As a person who is not of that race and cannot use the term (I wouldn't use it regardless) I cannot speak for black individuals who do reclaim the term.

I do think that the term "ghetto" is not as offensive as the "n" word. That being said I don't think either words are necessary to use, but also I am not black so I have no right to tell black individuals what they can and can't say or do because they are the ones reclaiming the term so they have a right to do what they feel is right to them.

"Ghetto" I think is different because it resonates with many different races to define poverty, lowliness, and just is a hurtful and offensive term to use overall. It transcends race in my opinion because it was used in Europe to target a specific group of people, and is used in other places such as north america, to target a completely different group of people.

I'm trying to not get too political and break the rules, so I will leave it at that. But happy to chat about this via DM!

Also this is just MY opinion and what I've learned in my courses from school. Not setting anything in stone here as everyone interprets words differently.
