Is anyone else shopping out of fear/stress of prices increasing?

I wish had an SA who would let me know when this would happen. The SA I purchased my bag from in SF went on maternity leave and did not return. The second SA I purchased from was in SoCal.
I should find his number and see if he is still around to give me the heads up!
You'll likely get better notice and info from the Chanel Shopping forum lol, no joke!

I have more anxiety about having too much stuff (especially stuff that I don’t use often). So no, this is not me at all.

Same here! This is silly, but once a commercial came on for the TV show Hoarders and the voiceover said something along the lines of “people who are oppressed by the volume of their belongings”. I never want to become one of those people. Mo’ stuff, mo’ problems.

No, not unless you are sure you were going to purchase anyway. But I don’t see my stuff as an investment and prefer to get it back via cost per wear

The price of chanel RTW is making me move towards other luxury brands like Hermes and Brunello Cuchinelli. There was a chanel jacket I liked this past summer for 12K, and I thought about how much other stuff I could get instead. I eventually ended up with VCA.

I also have some anxiety about too much stuff, so I regularly purge to m9m, aunts, cousins, moms assistant, cleaning woman. . . .

edit: also agree with @Pessie below. 2020 was difficult. Don’t beat yourself up if you shopped more than usual so long as you love it; you can afford it without debt or worry; and, you, or someone you love, will use it. Sometimes I want to buy something but don’t really need anything new, so I warehouse it specifically to give as gifts. (The onlu time I keep boxes etc.

Totally agree. Back in 2012, I had gone to our Neiman's and they actually had some Chanel's on sale. Can you believe that? I liked the bag and it was only $2,200. For some reason, I wanted to sleep on it. I called back the next day and of course it was gone. After that, I finally purchased my first Chanel bag in 2017 for over $5k. I feel like I never got over that. My sister and I still talk about the timing of that whole situation. Like why did I not just grab it while I could!

Don't be too hard on yourself. If you thought that you needed to sleep on it, maybe you did. That bag (that you perhaps never thought of buying at full price) may be hiding in the dark crevices of your wardrobe now, unused or unloved.

I had to pay more for a bag that went up during Covid lockdown because there was a price rise and I wanted to see the bag in person. In the end I cut costs somewhere else, so adding-up I didn't actually lose any money.

Aww thanks for that perspective. Curious which bag?

I emailed a sales associate about a ring that I have been wanting to purchase. Well, I am actually interested in two rings from that brand. Fast forward, I went to the store and bought one of the rings. At that time, the sale associate told me that there will be a price increase in a few days. Instead of actually buying two rings, I talked some sense into myself that I had to wait at least another six month until I purchase the second ring, despite knowing about the price increase. Need to be a responsible adult !

In the run up to Christmas I bought lots of things I didn’t need, mostly small stuff for the house and foody treats, and I know it’s because I’m bored and fed up, nothing to do with price increases as such. So I made a pact with myself not to buy anything in January that’s not essential and so far I’ve stuck to it without too much difficulty. I did hover over some gorgeous red gloves yesterday but resisted!
I don’t think we should beat ourselves up about it. 2020 was a hell of a horrible year.

It does feel like a lot! I buy mostly Chanel and Goyard. When I started buying Chanel around 2005 they hadn't had an increase in like 10 years. . . they sure made up for it. The Classic kiss lock clutch was $850 back then. I'm guessing it's at least $2k now.

It's so shocking to see the price increase of Chanel right now. I bought my first Chanel bag in 2010 for $2400. I've been saving up and waiting to get a CF or boy, but not sure when I should purchase as now the price is so high. I check the Chanel thread often and think of purchasing preloved. I'm also considering going to grad school so I need to set priorities. I have been buying more in general lately because I have a more stable job. If anything I've been shopping because of financial independence.

It has been a tough year- don’t be hard on yourself.

To stop myself from overbuying stuff I don’t need during these stressful times I add to cart and wait a week. If I still really want it then I purchase the item. If the item sells out it wasn’t meant to be. Many times I feel that I’m purchasing purely out of stress/nerves/distraction rather than want.

I love this tip! Thank you :D
